After living with me here in West Palm Beach in the Fall of 2016 while he was completing Dive school, Drew, relocated to Corozal, Belize. As of 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 25th, Drew and his girlfriend, Francesca Matus, have gone missing.
With the support of the local Belize authority along with the Canadian and US Embassies, efforts were made to locate them. As of May 1st, around 8:45 p.m., we received news that Drew and Francesca's bodies have been found. With your support, Drew's family and I would like to raise money to hire a private investigation firm to investigate Drew's disappearance and death.
Drew was laid to rest at the Nashville National Cemetery on May 19th. It was a day marked with laughter and tears as we all gathered from near and far to share memories and the impact he had made in each of our lives.
To all who have donated and shared Drew's story, please know that we are still pursuing justice. We are doing all that we can so that Drew and Francesca's deaths won't be forgotten. We won't be quiet. We won't let them be a part of the 97% of unsolved murder statistic.
Drew, you weren't afraid to face the devil,
You were no stranger to the rain.
Go rest high on that mountain.
Your work on earth is done.
I wish I could see the angels' faces
When they hear your sweet [guitar sound]. -Vince Gill
First off, this isn't the place for negative comments. Usually people do not like asking for money, so close friends fundraise. Second of all...this isn't a place for your opinion on thier death. Him serving for our country has nothing to do with karma or payback. That's the shittiest thing you can say. If you have a negative opinion on this page please refrain and Keep it to yourself. You should be very ashamed if yourselves for saying anything other than expressing your sympathy.
Not only is travel expensive, but corrupt third world governments make it extremely difficult to move forward with investigations. Corruption is rampant in places like this. If you read throughout the description here they let you know that private investigators cost up to $1500 per day; which they are arranging. Of course family & friends will seek justice and do everything they can- Drew was a friend of mine and deserves the utmost honor & respect. Save the negative banter. This is absolutely the wrong place & time. RIP Drew, you are missed buddy & I hope justice is served for you.
For the life of me I cannot understand the ignorance of some people. This is a tragedy. I don't know these people and I am certain the family is devastated. If you have something negative and hateful to say please use common sense and move on. Thank you for your service and sacrifices for our freedom.
Mr. Conkhite, should that child your feeding come down with an illness, com here, you won't have to feel helpless, I’ll donate. Ms. Katie Ann, God blessed you by the courage he designed Drew to have so Drew would go fight for you even though your words clearly declares the lack of appreciation you have for him. Mr. Jason, Cuba is safe only because of gentleman like Drew. Note, fundraisers aren’t form to support just one cause, one illness. Lastly, should you lose your job, then insurance and then wife, come here, I’d donate and help when you need it the most, like Drew's family does... from us, right now. Mr. Hugh, stop trolling, go chat with all those friends of yours who are probably over hearing your weak opinionated remarks. Ms. Love Deb, your name couldn’t be further from the truth. Oh, Deb, meet Hugh, Huge meet deb. Now, both of you, please skedaddle!
Deb and Hugh- This is not a forum for negativity. I used to live with Brandon Barfield and have known him for over 20 years. He would have taken a bullet for Devo. Their friendship has never wavered since they met in the Marine Corps. Two people were brutally murdered and your biggest concern is why his best friend is raising money so his family doesn't have to think about it during the worst time in their lives? I am in disbelief. Maybe take focus your energy on praying for Devo's family or for Brandon, while he is in Belize trying to find answers and get justice for his closest friend.
