Fighting for Ms. Jackie

Donación protegida
When my mother, Jackie Fontenot, left her position as a campus police officer at New Orleans LSU Health Sciences Center in 2006 to join NOPD, I was very concerned for her safety. Little did I dream that I would one day witness my mother fighting her fiercest foe, esophageal adenocarcinoma (cancer).

In October, 2016, I learned that my mother, now a ten year veteran of NOPD's First District, was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer after a visit to the Norman McSwain's First Responder Clinic at Tulane Medical Center.

While my mother underwent radiation and chemotherapy, her colleagues in the First District have made it their mission to demonstrate their love and support, assuring Ms. Jackie "We Got Your Six".

My mother's one-time partner, First District Officer Beverly Ashe, got the ball rolling with a Valentine's Day fundraiser at the station, soon followed by a Facebook page, Fighting For Ms. Jackie, created by First District officer Colette Hart.

Adam Bennett, owner of April's of Picayune, graciously created and offered for sale t-shirts designed by Officer Colette, boosted by the very generous donation provided by Nelson Savoie, a long-time supporter of the law enforcement community.

I'd like to thank retired Lieutenant K. Brink for taking time out to support this cause (pictured below selling t-shirts at the parades).

I am seeking to assist my mother with her mounting medical bills by offering this additional venue to show support.
