LINKS supports FIRST & STEM in DC
Representing 14 different public, private and home schools from the Metro-Atlanta area, Fernbank LINKS students dedicate 6 hours+ every week to the FIRST Robotics Competition. The team is comprised of students in 9th-12th grades and represents diversity on every level.
The Fernbank LINKS Robotics team has been competing in FIRST since 2011. For the 4th consecutive year, this team has earned an invitation to the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas. This is the result of excellent engineering applications to the construction of a competitive robot and a premiere outreach program. LINKS received the 2018 Regional NASA Engineering Inspiration Award, celebrating "outstanding student leaders whose passion for and effectiveness at attaining FIRST ideals is exemplary."
Annually the members raise over $1000 each to support their efforts. Many of our alumni, parents and friends, as well as fans of our future engineers and entrepreneurs have been generous supporters.
In June, the team has the opportunity of representing Georgia FIRST at a National Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC. The participants will receive training and then meet with respective Senators and Members of Congress in an effort to change the culture to value FIRST and STEM.
Your donations will contribute to creating the next generation of STEM leaders. Every small amount helps Fernbank LINKS to succeed in fulfilling this mission. Only 25% of students are in STEM fields. This is why millions of STEM jobs are unfilled each year. LINKS is working hard to generate the Scientists, Technicians, Engineers, and Mathematicians to supply these high demand skills.
So please, donate and share to help raise awareness among Senators and Members of Congress to help create the next generation of STEM leaders.
The team will be traveling to the event on Wednesday by bus with our friends from team 6705 Dunwoody Wildcat 5e.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped us reach this point so far; parents, mentors, neighboring teams, SPONSORS, and of course you, our amazing donors. Nothing we have accomplished this year would be possible without all of your support.
Now is when we need your help the most. Your donations will help not only pay for the hotels and bus, but also meals for the team while we are in Houston.
Again, a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our donors. Wish us luck at the FIRST Championship!
robots and pizza,
We have officially qualified for the Peachtree District Championship! The team is firing all cylinders to prepare for competition next week in Athens GA. Our programmers are working on new autonomous code, and the build team is fabricating a new and improved climbing mechanism.
We are very excited and would like to thank all of our supporters who have donated so far. We still haven't reached our goal of $10k so keep on donating and sharing!
Robots and pizza,
Last season we represented Georgia as one of two NASA Engineering Inspiration teams. We were also the #1 seed team in Georgia! Having a practice robot is the secret to being competitive at events. We thank everyone who helped us last season and hope you will be able to spread the word to help us secure more supporters this season!
