They say that bad things always seem to happen to good people, and I’m beginning to think that this is very true. My niece, Felicia Renee Hambrick a recent graduate from Pacific Lutheran University located in Parkland, Washington was viciously attacked this past weekend while babysitting her best friend’s 3 kids. This brave beautiful young lady who stands 4’11 and weighs 115lbs sacrificed her body without hesitating to turn on her fight-to-flight adrenaline just to shield the infant from the Pit bull’s unforeseen attack. Felicia was not a stranger to the dog, nor was she taunting the dog. In fact, the dog was in another room with the door closed until somehow the door got opened and the dog escaped. The dog ran directly towards Felicia and the baby. Felicia immediately sensed that the dog was after her, and not the baby, but her main concern was that the baby would also be injured as she was holding her.  Before she could escape out of the dog’s way, she instantly sheltered her body around the baby by turning her back and securing the baby using her arms to protect the infant from the dog’s brutal attack.

While Felicia desperately tried fending off the dog – the dog aggressively continued biting her arms, thighs, calf, behind her knee fold (right where the knee bends), her stomach, and her neck (some of the pics are shown below). Her friend’s mother who came to help was able to beat the dog with a broom long enough to get the baby away and continued beating the dog off of Felicia. A nearby neighbor heard Felicia screaming and called 911. The vicious attack (which Felicia stated it felt like 15-20 minutes) has unfortunately left my niece’s body permanently scarred for the rest of her life. Her path to recovery will be a long and painful one. Before this attack, Felicia was seeking a job at Tacoma General Hospital (TG) so that she could start helping her mother Robbyn Young pay for her educational student loans. Felicia never imagined that instead of finding a job at TG she would be spending time as a patient there instead. Now she will be facing a much long unexpected road to recovery which will include several surgeries, skin graphs, muscle/tendon repair, plastic surgery, and months of mental & physical therapy. Unfortunately, the most painful memory of all will be the constant reminder of seeing the 30-40 bites and gouges that cover her body which are now considered her battle scars. My niece, who is blessed to have survived, is my little brave hero who will need her family & friend’s to surround her with love and support. Together we all can change this bad situation that happened to a sweet caring and helpful person into a positive outcome.

On behalf of the love that I have for my nieces (her strong supportive mother: Robbyn Young & my great niece - Felicia Hambrick), I ask those who are able to please find it in your heart to donate to this much needed GoFundMe account. No donation is too small, AND all of the donations will go towards the cost of Felicia’s surgeries, post therapy and entire medical expenses. Any remaining funds will be applied to her educational loans.

Thank you in advance for your prayers, donations, love and support!

Sincerely,

Rachel Vaughan

Hello all!

The family of Felicia Hambrick thanks each and every one of you for your donations, your prayers and kind words of encouragement. I write to update you on the status of my niece’s current situation. Felicia is making the most of her recovery by working daily to become stronger and stronger as her body allows. She is still surrounded with loving and caring family - and an abundant amount of friends who continue to support her through this ordeal. Through it all, Felicia still exhibits an amazing positive attitude and is extremely grateful for all who have been and continues to be apart of her recovery process.

Again, on behalf of Felicia Hambrick a sincere THANKS to all of her supporters. This campaign is officially closed.

I personally would like to publicly thank Journalist Craig Sailor from the The News Tribune for the fantastic article he wrote! You ROCK and as I mentioned to you in a private message...continue to bring knowledge and awareness to future stories of individuals who sacrifice their lives for others, but not just for stories of this nature but for STORIES that DESERVE PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT! Again, thank you!

I’m a strong believer that time heals all wounds, but scars indented on your body are lasting memories which will never fade. Even though this young bodyguard is trying to put up a strong “I’m ok” front, I’m sure she has, and will continue to have reoccurring moments of her horrific attack. When the night time falls, alone laying in her bed is when the horrifying event that has left her beautiful body scarred up for life replays in her head. I can’t even imagine how she even sleeps at night. I know you should be careful of what you ask for, but I find myself asking God to remove her pain and place upon my body to endure what she has to go through with every movement of her carefully stitched extremities. She has so many stitches you can’t help but wonder if they itch? Does the skin on her arms and legs feel tight? Do her wounds still hurt like the day of the attack? Can she feel the skin stretching? Are they tender to touch? Do her blankets snag the crust of the healing scabs that are held together by the many stitches? Can she bathe by herself? Is she still prone to easily catching an infection – especially in the gouges that weren’t able to be stitched? Will all of the scars eventually heal up smoothly??? Yes, these are the things I lie awake thinking about before I pray for my brave niece to receive a peaceful night's rest. Let's take a look at how she's doing... Thanks for reading…
wondering why did this even happen to me

tight and painful but slowly healing

Stephani, please.. you know nothing about this other than what you read. And even that can change yet. Possibly when this was created she needed those grafts but she decided afterwards not to have them done. She may change her mind yet again, who knows. Quite honestly this is none of your business. She is an incredibly brave young woman and no matter what money she gets above and beyond her medical bills, she quite rightly deserves! Did you donate or did you just troll? If you don't wish to donate to a gofundme account that's your prerogative but unless you are this young woman or her Auntie, please leave your not so kind remarks to yourself. Don't you think she's gone through enough already? She doesn't need trolls along with pit bulls. And for goodness sake, what on earth makes you think the friend must have homeowners insurance? And if she rents why should the landlord be sued? Not his dog. But really, do you have any idea the percentage of people that actually have ins. is? The numbers are low, especially for renters. And Auntie... just keep on being her support and give her love for us all. Try your best to not listen to people like Stephani who must be miserable and just wants to share it. Get a hobby Stephani and I don't mean going around on comment boards being a troll.

God definitely has something more in store for you. What happened to you was awful and pure eveil. However, by reading the article it seems as if you're a forgiving person and you're very positive. I don't know why people want you to sue the dogs owner. that's your bestfriend. You are going about this the correct way.

I couldn't help but cry as I read this horrific story. I can't imagine those moments that seemed like hours I'm sure. I'm confident that she will heal from this just fine God will see too it. I work for TG and I'm sure her care givers are doing everything they can for her. Her dream of working at TG is still a possibility.. if you can dream it you can live it.. I tip my hat to you young lady for your courage in keeping the baby safe.. you are indeed an Angle. I'm praying for you and your family.. and I'm thanking Jesus in Advance for All that he is going to do for you..

And no one wants the dog put down. I know I don't. But if these people truly are your friends they should be begging you to let them handle this. I'm just curious as to their reaction to all this. This brave woman saved their child.

Trust in the LORD and He will hear your prayer. He may not answer when we think HE should but the GOD I serve is always on time and His time. I want go give more and when I give to this fund I give to God. Though I can never give back what GOD has given me, I hope this helps.

Praying for you! I was injured after being attacked by pitbulls while riding my bike. Your aunt, Rachel, saw me speak at an event and told me your story. I am so sorry. I hope that you recover soon and recover fully.
