There are an estimated 10 million Almajiri abandoned children in Nigeria at any point in time. These 'Almajiri' are kids sent away by their parents to get an Islamic education. They are SENT TO BEG ALL DAY to pay a Mualim(Islamic teacher) for tuition and board, and get very little of the Islamic education they are abandoned to get and NO FORMAL EDUCATION whatsoever.

When they fall sick, they suffer in their distress and if they find their way to hospitals, there is no health insurance and they die, unaccounted for and not missed except by their peers.
They Beg To Pay For Board
The Nigerian government, especially in the plagued north appears at ease with their presence as politicians frequently use these Almajiri to rig elections, flood election rallies and for violence.

Through our http://AlmajiriProject.com , we have taken up the PLIGHT of the discarded Almajiri upon ourselves over the years. Our approach is two pronged:
1. Through public campaigns, media interviews and letters to the government, we are pressing for the abandonment-for-so-called Islamic education practice to be BANNED in entirety. Begging and abandonment are strongly detested in Islam.

2. Over the years we help to feed and care for these kids. We provide them with meals, shoes, pay their medical bills and rehabilitation tools as needed.
