In August 2017, I uttered the words 'I want a magazine.' I had no idea how difficult the entrepreneurial journey would be. I had no experience in editorial publishing or experience in design. I just knew how to develop a business plan and what I was passionate about. So, because of grit, I was able to get to five issues to you all in one year. Crazy.
I believe in the African proverb “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” In only my first year of running this magazine, I’ve managed to partner with amazing photographers and makeup artists on photo shoots, book amazing talent to cover the editorial stories, design compelling magazine layouts, and produce a quality magazine – all alone. I invested my own personal funds from freelance gigs, my efforts in curating wardrobe samples for styling shoots, and my time transcribing multiple interviews; I’ve developed such an intimate connection with this publication that I fell in love with it. I believed in my vision and the aims of this brand which is why I kept pushing. And, I know, my determination and relentless will are what got me to where I am with the publication today in such a short time.
As I enter into the next chapter for my business, I could really use your help! I believe in the potential of this brand but know, truthfully, I cannot get far without my tribe. In sum, I’m looking to heighten the magazine’s growth by developing a stellar PAID in-house team; host more interactive events allowing my audience/community to feel more engaged with the brand; more digital content (radio and video); and, one day, invest in my own in-house studio to invite creatives to interview and produce photo shoots. With your generous donation, it would put Luxy Haus one step closer to giving the community what it truly deserves: Fashion With More Color.
