Fallen Hero Scholarship Funds

Donación protegida

Today, in the United States, some 900,000 law enforcement officers risk their lives each day for the safety and protection of others. They serve with valor and distinction – and with great success. Federal statistics show that violent and property crime rates in the United States are at historic lows, thanks to the large measure of dedicated service men and women in law enforcement.

That protection comes at a price, however. Each year, there are approximately 60,000 assaults on law enforcement officers, resulting in nearly 16,000 injuries. Sadly, over the last decade, an average of 150 officers a year have been lost their lives in the line of duty. On average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States every 60 hours. Since the first known line-of-duty death in 1791, more than 20,000 U.S. law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice.

According to preliminary data as of 1/26/2016 compiled by the Officer Down Memorial Page, "133" law enforcement officers and "26" K9's died in the line of duty in 2015. Similar to my previous event, I'll be running 159 miles during the month of February, few miles longer than last years 121. Dedicating each day to a specific state or states and the mileage ran that day will represent the total numbers of Officers that lost their lives from those respective states.

Your generous donations will be split up 50/50 to these honorable organizations stated below.

The Marine Corps—Law Enforcement Foundation: is a 501(c)3 charity that provides scholarships to children of Marines and federal law enforcement personnel killed on duty or who died under extraordinary circumstances while serving our country at home.

The Gloucester County Hero Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping with the needs of the families of emergency services responders who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.

Our strategy for charitable giving is three fold. First and foremost, we help the families of fallen public safety personnel by providing immediate living and medical expenses within the first 48 hours after a documented line of duty death. Second, it is our mission to assist individuals who suffer a catastrophic injury or illness in the line of duty and may have an extended recovery resulting in a prolonged absence from their occupation; or are unable to return to work due to the injury or illness. This aid helps to offset medical, rehabilitation, and living expenses that may not be covered by insurance. Third, we assist the children of public safety personnel to continue on to college, particularly in situations in which a parent has died in the line of duty.
