Fairview Oklahoma PD K-9 Program

Donation protected

The Fairview Oklahoma Police Department is starting a new Narcotics Detection K-9 Program.  We are very excited to announce that another local Oklahoma department has graciously donated a fully certified and trained Narcotics Detection K-9 (a $10,000 value) to our department.  We are respectfully seeking donations to train and equip our Police Officer Handler, maintain and equip the K-9 with proper protective gear, and to build a solid foundation for our new Narcotics Detection K-9 Program.

Fairview has been without a detection canine for nearly a decade and in the program's absence, it is evident that narcotics have become more of a concern to our local community.  Many innocent lives are affected by the increased criminal activity associated with the increase in narcotics activity and this program will be extremely instrumental in helping find and eradicate narcotics.

Say Hello to our NEW Narcotics Detection K-9.

Her name is “BANA”, and she is a female Belgian Malinois/Dutch Shepherd mix who is currently 2.5 years old.  Bana has been trained by a Certified Police K-9 trainer, was previously state certified through the Oklahoma  Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) and has been actively working and dramtically reducing narcotics activity for the last year in Northwest OK.  Now her talents have arrived in Fairview, and we are very excited to put those talents to work reducing narcotics activity in our community and ensuring our children have the safest environment possible.

Although Bana was donated to our department, we still need to raise money for the startup of the K-9 program; which includes the cost of equipment, training and certification of her handler, as well as Bana's vet care, insurance, and protective duty gear.  We are optimistic that our program will be self-sustaining each year through continued fundraising efforts and by using this platform to accept donations locally and nationally.

These donations take the burden off an already tight annual Police Department budget.   Although we have set a goal of $15,000 for now, there is no time limit or cap on our fundraising efforts.  As stated before; the ultimate goal is to be self-sustaining.

A Narcotics Detection K-9 Team is an extremely vital and valuable resource to our community.  Narcotics Detection dogs have been utilized in law enforcement service for over thirty years.  A trained detection dog can locate hidden narcotics that may be difficult, if not, impossible to locate by a human.  No longer will this be the case!  Once we have our program up and running, we will also be able to help adjacent departments if needed that may not have a K-9 or in cases where we have missing children, as detection dogs are often used as highly skilled tracking dogs.

There is no match for a well-trained Narcotics Detection K-9 Team.  This program has the potential to prevent the loss of life, save overtime hours for police officers and dramatically reduce the overall narcotics activity in our community.  Additionally, the team will be invaluable to our children.  Our team will also be a vital training asset within our local schools and assist in drug prevention programs and provide canine demonstrations.

Through your generous donations and with the much needed and always present support of our community residents, civil and educational leaders, business owners, and friends and relatives both near and far that share our love for Fairview, OK and keeping our community and children safe, the potential of our Narcotics Detection K-9 Program will be limitless.
