This is the official fund drive of the Fairfax 2015 host which aims to support the athletes and families of the tragic cycling crash during our Games.

Who We Are:
We are the official organizing commitee for the Fairfax 2015 World Police & Fire Games based in Fairfax County, Virginia. The athletes involved in this horrific crash during their Cycling event has touched us all. They are part of our World Police & Fire Games family and as the official host. They are our athletes and we will do whatever we can to assist them.

Background Story: On July 2nd at 12:20PM, a crash involving multiple bicyclists participating in an event for the 2015 World Police & Fire Games occured. The investigation revealed that while traveling downhill, one of the bicyclists sustained a blowout from a tire causing the rim on the bike to collapse. The crash caused a chain reaction collision with other bicyclists. Three of the participants sustained serious injuries and were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The incident occurred on a closed cycling course on Scenic Dr near Turkey Run Rd along the roadway within the park. All bicyclists were wearing proper safety equipment at the time of the crash. Several other bicyclists rendered aid to the injured participants prior to the arrival of medical personnel.

The three bicyclist involved in the race are visitors to our area, two of which outside our country. The athletes are not sponsored and travel at their own expense. The families of these athletes will endur extensive costs to come to our area in order to be with their loved ones. In addition, Inspector Carlos Silva of Brazil who was killed leaves behind a daughter.

Please consider assisting these athletes and their families as they deal with this tragedy.

Funds Use:  We are using this platform to raise funds for all three families affected by this terrible incident. 100% of the monies dispersed by GoFundMe will be divided equally between the three athletes/families involved in the crash to help offset their expenses throughout this ordeal. All athletes are not from the National Capital Region and will require money for hotels, food, transportation and more. They desperatly need our assistance.

Funds Delivery: We are in constant contact in person with the families involved in this incident. We visit them daily at Fairfax Hospital. At the appropriate time our organization will withdraw the monies and present directly to the families in our area during their stay.

Want some good news? Winnipeg Police Officer Darrell Hees (who was involved in the cycling crash) was released from Fairfax Hospital yesterday. Fairfax County Fire & Rescue units were on hand to assist with his move to local relatives before going home to Canada next week. Darrell's wife was overwhelmed with the assistance our firefighters were able to provide at last minutes notice. He has a long road to recover ... but is walking! Although I am from Fairfax, I was unaware of this until almost 18 months later. I hope the injured are largely recovered by now.

I am part of the Chicago Fire Department Cycling Team and was in the race. It was a devastating day for all of us. I only hope this can help the family and his children in some way.
