Faces of Bodega Bay

$4,700 of $5,000 goal

Faces of Bodega Bay is a photojournalistic record of the people of our small town: school kids, surfers, shop owners, fishermen, restaurant workers; the whole gamut of people who live and work in Bodega Bay and make it the wonderful community that it is.

Sonoma County photographer John Hershey pairs his “environmental portraits”, which portray the subjects in their natural environment, capturing their character through their surroundings, with a short biography of the subject, written by members of the Rancho Bodega Historical Society.

Through this project, we are learning more about our friends and neighbors, and we are preserving who we are for future residents of Bodega Bay.

Our goal is to raise enough money to print and frame 100 portraits by the end of this winter so that we can have a show in the Spring of 2019, which will be open to the public at no charge.

We are enormously grateful to videographer Jason Windsor for creation of this awesome video that tells so well the story of Faces of Bodega Bay.

Several weeks ago Rancho Bodega Historical Society initiated a fervent plea for $5,000 to fund the wildly popular Faces of Bodega Bay project -- which combines photography and writing to profile people in our community. If you haven’t seen the fabulous video that describes the Faces project, be sure to check it out on this page.

We asked and our supporters generously responded -- with checks and through gofundme - to help fund the cost of printing and framing 100 portraits of folks who live and work in Bodega Bay and displaying the portraits in a show in Bodega Bay in early 2019.

To date, through our initial appeal we’ve raised $3,100, so we are more than half-way there. But we are still shy of our realistic goal of $5,000 to cover the costs of displaying these community profiles.

Faces of Bodega Bay is a unique endeavor. The portraits by well-known local photographer John Hershey are art worthy on their own, and when paired with the biographies being written by volunteers from the Rancho Bodega Historical Society, we show the amazing diversity of talent that populates our community.

That’s why we appeal to your generosity to help make this project a reality. Tuesday November 27 is “Giving Tuesday”, the biggest donation day of the year. Please include the Faces of Bodega Bay project in your Giving Tuesday donations.

Thank you!
