Melissa's Kickin' Cancer Fund
Hey there! Thank you for visiting my campaign.
My name is Melissa, some people know me as Fen (you know who you are), and I'm a 30 year old veterinary office manager, engaged to be married this October 16th to my fiancé Jon. Back in 2008, I had a brief fight with an exterior malignant melanoma. I had surgery to remove the rather large mole, two other suspicious sites, and a lymph node on my left side for testing. We thought we'd beat it. We thought all was clear.
Sadly, eight years later, melanoma has reared its ugly head again, this time in the form of a palpable tumor in my right breast. The news has been shocking, and seeing as my wedding is this October the timing is terrible, but I refuse to do anything but fight.
I'm raising money to cover the expenses that have been and will be incurred during further diagnostics and treatment. This fight has just started, so I'm not even sure how far it will go, but I do know I've already incurred nearly $2,000 in copays and lost wages just to get this initial diagnosis.
All money donated to this campaign will be used to pay bills and debts gathered during treatment, travel costs (there may be a doctor in New York City I need to see to keep this from coming back again and again), and lost wages due to needing to take off work for treatment.
I will update the campaign as I learn more about my cancer staging and treatment options, but since I know very little at this point it is hard to set a firm dollar amount. I need to begin collecting money soon so I can pay off the initial debt to the hospital for the mammogram, ultrasounds, and punch biopsies performed so far.
The fact that I have been asked to make this campaign page by so many friends and family has touched my heart. I have no idea how to truly say thank you in a way that conveys how humble and loved this has made me feel. I love every last one of you, and every word of encouragement has been so appreciated. I did this once, I can do it again. Thank you for being a part of my fight.
