The Hernandez family, Rafael (senior); Ana; and daughters Mariela, age 24; and Miriam, age 14; was in catastrophic auto accident on June 10, 2018.

Rafael is in intensive care, Miriam is in the hospital with severe injuries, and Ana did not survive.

Mariela, although she does not have any physical wounds, is doing what she has always done - taking care of her family. She and Rafael (junior - "Rafita") are going to need all of our help to get through this.

The family needs help with funeral costs for Ana, hospital and doctor bills, and with household expenses so that when Rafael and Miriam are ready to come home there will be a house to come home to.

Rafael and Ana, beyond supporting Miriam who lives at home and will be in 9th grade next fall, also support Rafita who is in college, and they had hoped to help support Mariela who had just graduated from college.

Please help Mariela and Rafita with these expenses so they will be able to focus on getting their family better and will not have to worry about the financial struggles they are about to face with no income from their parents coming into the household.

Anyone who has ever met this family saw the love they feel for each other. Please help the Hernandez Cruz family through this crisis by donating what you can.

Please share this page so the message can reach as many people as possible.

Updates will be posted.

Update from Mariela:
Tomorrow is an important day for my family as we see our mother one last time before we travel to Mexico to bury her in her homeland. For the past three weeks, we have delayed seeing her because of my father’s health but now that he is well enough to leave the hospital, for a few hours, we have made the proper arrangements to see her tomorrow July 6, 2018.

We are all filled with mixed and overwhelming emotions as we anxiously wait to be reunited with our mother. These past few weeks, I’ve felt in a daze, waiting to wake up from this dream. I feel as my mother has taken a trip to a place I just can’t reach, a place where I know she’s in peace, visiting her mother and other loved ones. But here we are, caring for our father and each other, waiting for her return. Tomorrow disrupts that. Tomorrow reality will truly hit. And I will pull my family even closer to me, sit there with my mother hoping to find peace and strength as I continue life with her spirit loving and guiding us from afar.

Thank you for holding us during this painful time. Thank you for your healing and loving prayers.

With love and care,

From Mariela:

Thank you for the outpouring of love and support as we grieve our mother’s death and anxiously await our father’s recovery. Though he’s out of the ICU, he’s faced some complications because of the surgery. He has a strong will to live and is fighting to recover well. We are by his side at different points of the day, someone always by his side. My brother has been staying the night with him, giving him the love and care my mother sends our way. Miriam is resting at home where my aunts and cousins keep her company. She’s thankful for the cards and words of love and guidance she has been receiving these past days.

It was with such pain that I had to tell my father of my mother’s passing last Friday. I don’t feel that heaviness in my heart anymore, of fearing his reaction to her loss. As I share this update, i can’t fully comprehend this reality. I find myself thinking, “ this can’t be real. Why can’t I wake up from this nightmare”. As the days go by, I realize I’m awake.

I would be lying if I told you that we’re okay. We’re not. We’re afraid. wanting our dad’s pain to go away. we miss our mom. We miss what we had before this.

Our mother’s strength and love helps us through our day. We feel her warmth as we fall asleep at night. She gives us that will to see another day, to grow stronger together and be gentler with each other.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your beautiful messages, for your unconditional love. Thank you to the Canterbury, Wellesley, Middlebury, and Fiddlesticks community for reaching out to us and holding us in your prayers. Thank you to you all.

With love,
