Elbert-Palmer Elementary Drum Line
As I sit back and reflect on the past 2 ½ months, I realize the massive task many people accepted to make a vision of self-assurance and self-confidence for 12 young talented musicians to embark on a life changing and fulfilling journey to perform on an international stage at Disney World. We cultivated the idiom “it takes a village” to “it takes a society”. Our GoFundMe supporters helped tremendously by raising over $6,500 to relieve much of the financial burden for our students and parents. We received additional donations from state agencies, public officials and the Christina School District which helped relieve the financial burden for everyone to have a safe journey.
The life-changing and positive effects of this experience for our children are endlessness. The children witnessed first-hand what dedication and hard work can lead to. They saw there is more in the world than their neighborhoods in Wilmington. They saw how people, like you, do believe in them, care for them and want them to achieve and be successful in life. They walked proud knowing that THEY took part in an experience that never has happened in their community before. They performed with such couth and confidence. I have never been so proud and impressed of this group. Their precision and focus was surreal, and when it was all done they certainly had the time of their lives! I cannot say thank you enough to all who supported, embraced and followed us.
Success is addictive. Once you achieve it, you will do what is necessary to maintain it. Everyone involved in making this trip happen helped plant the seeds, in our children, so they can grow and flourish, be successful and sow strong seeds for their own future. I thank all of you for seeing this path; for believing in our children.
