Refugee assistance in Greece trip

Thank you for taking the time to read my donation proposal.
I trained several years ago as an EMR, (Emergency Medical Responder) but did not take an ambulance job because of how far from town the job offers were. The desire to serve in this capacity still remains and I am excited to finally be doing something in this field.
My plan is to leave Summerland in early February and travel to a Greek island called Lesvos. This is one of the locations where refugees are landing after leaving Turkey by boat. I am hoping to stay for 6-8 weeks. As you can imagine the needs are great, but if we all do our part we can make a collective difference on a much larger scale.
This leads me to why I am making this request to you. I am asking businesses, individuals and organisations to please consider donations of goods towards gift baskets that will be set out for draws. The baskets will be at locations, yet to be determined, with donation jars and entry forms on hand. You can also help by collecting money with your own creative ideas or make direct donations in lieu of items. I would like to have baskets out by January 5th 2016, allowing as much time as possible to raise funds.
The monies collected will be used to purchase much needed items for the refugees. A lot of which can be bought right on the island of Lesvos. In fact, doing so helps out local businesses there and puts much needed funds into the depressed and now over stressed Greek economy.
Just to let you know, I am covering my own travel costs. I just thought perhaps there are others out there like me who would like to help out and make something special happen. If you have fund raising ideas that you think would benefit this cause, please share!
