Fight against retinoblastoma
The Doctor called my family into a conference room and told them, “I'm sorry to say your daughter has an eye tumor and will need to be treated right away. If not, she could die!” Ugh! Just like that, one day I’m happy, playing in my swing, and the next, I'm dying. My mom cried so hard. The news was just too much for her and she left the room.
After that visit, I had one appointment after another. Finally, I was diagnosed with retinoblastoma by a pediatric ophthalmologist. Retinoblastoma is a childhood cancer arising from immature retinal cells in one or both eyes and can strike from the time a child is in the womb up to 5 years of age. This cancer is curable if caught early enough.
My parents didn’t know what to think. My mom blamed herself and has been crying every day, and dad is very sad as well but tries to hide it because my mom is sad.
During my next visit to the hospital, I would have to be put to sleep to have a retinal scan done on my eye. Finally, good news! My cancer had not moved and was not spreading to my other eye or my body. The doctor informed my family that the tumor was not that big and that, if treated right away, there could be hope of not losing my sight or eye.
My family took me to an Ocular Oncology Specialist. This doctor had practice experience with the management of retinoblastoma in children and was one of the best in the state of Michigan. Like the others, he informed my family that, worst case, there was a chance I could lose my eye. He had faith, however, that with chemotherapy and laser eye care, I would be fine.
CHEMO!!!! I'm only two months old; but the doctor says this is the only way to save my life. Well, I guess I’ll have to put my strong cap on and get well for myself and my mommy and daddy. I don't want them to hurt anymore. I just want them to know I'm going to be ok! Worst case at this point is I will have to wear glasses and won't have full vision.
Now my family faces an additional challenge. My mom had to stop working to look after me and our health insurance was canceled. My dad hasn't been back to work because he’s scared to leave mom and refuses to miss any of my appointments. It's been difficult for them to do very much and I still have needs as well as mounting medical bills!
I do know that my life isn't over not yet. I just got here and I look forward to making a mess and getting into trouble. I look forward to messing up my Parents and Grandparents homes. I look forward to exploring and getting into things I'm not supposed to.
Please, don't let my parents and family get overwhelmed with this and help them fight my battle against cancer. And finally, please share my story with someone else.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
On the 4th of aug I received a letter saying that her insurance had now been closed and she was no longer covered. So questions between me and her father as to what will we do now if she needs it, how are we going to pay bills? Will I loose my job again? What are we going to do? We don't have a car. We have to pay rent like things became more stressful in one letter.
So that's when her dad went out alone not telling anyone and unarmed robbed a bank. In his community. Which he did to be able to provide chemo and anything else for his daughter and provide for his family. He did interviews for jobs, we called the state worker for the insurance. and nothing.
Now she's going through chemo again and her father is not around.
As of 20th of aug we went in for a regular check up on her eye to see how the freeze treatment went and we were told that she would have to redo chemo treatments... Which we have started. Her chemo is a higher dose, and has a impact on her
Hello, I am so sorry to hear about your child and it shatters my heart into a million pieces. Cancer plays a big role on my life and I am the president and founder of the Cancer Awareness Society at Oakland University. I am willing to fund-raise for your baby! If you would like to email me at Jhermiz@oakland.edu I will update you on a fund-raiser that I have planned on November 6th. May God bless her to fight this awful disease.
God bless your family and beautiful baby Brailynn. Tell daddy not to feel like he let his family down because look at what's happening now. It might not have been the plan but his actions are going to make sure that she has access to the treatment she needs. I'll be sharing and donating later today. Prayers for baby Brailynn and mommy and daddy!

I am a retinoblastoma survivor having been diagnosed at age 3. I am now 25 and prefectly healthy. My situation was similar to your daughters, as my cancer had not left the eye socket. What I will say is this though - I have ZERO limitations on my life even though I only have one eye. I know many folks would try to avoid removing the eye, and I'm sure your doctor has told you, but chemo can have some serious damaging effects on the skull and can lead to deformation (since your skull does not finish growing until you are in your 20s). Having 1 eye has not changed my life in any way. You can't even tell my eye is not real unless you look closely. Removing the eye can be the fastest and easiest way to save your child. If you do consider this, we have one of the BEST makers of prosthetic eyes here in Boston, Jahrling Ocular Prosthetics. The level of care they provide is amazing and I promise you would never know your daughter has a fake eye. Just some food for thought. I will keep you and your daughter in my prayers. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I was treated at Boston Childrens Hospital by Dr. Robert Petersen and I can tell you, they are the BEST!
"...Randolph was arrested after authorities began tailing him and pulled him over in Detroit on Aug. 14. In the car, authorities found a Gucci bag with clothing and accessories, the new shirts and clothes, and new tennis shoes in his size in the front seat. They also recovered $3,100 in cash. Randolph told authorities he had paid multiple months’ worth of rent with the money." Wait, you also said you have no car, did he steal this too? Something isn't adding up here, and another article stated your insurance wasn't cancelled but that you never renewed it: "...According to WXYZ, Brailynn’s health insurance was unexpectedly cancelled after Dupree failed to renew it following the toddler’s one year birthday."
Honey, you have so many people behind your family from around the country. I hope that your family makes it through this and that your daughters father is able to beat these charges and find a job that allows him to provide her with insurance. The amount of love, and dedication that he showed is amazing. The fact that in our day and age and in this supposed richest country that this happens is heartwrenching. I hope that you guys make it through this and that your sweet baby makes it through this with her daddy right there.
If you go to the article http://butthatsnoneofmybusiness.com/23-year-old-father-robs-a-bank-to-pay-for-his-daughters-chemo-after-insurance-runs-out-23-year-old-father-robs-a-bank-to-pay-for-his-daughters-chemo-after-insurance-runs-out/ put out by the same site that posted the video on facebook, you will see a picture of the young man and child, it is from his IG. The comments were cropped out, as he states the child is not his daughter. This looks fishy.
Congratulations DAD. In the END hopefully we can get this up to a million dollars. I am so Proud of this Father even though he broke the laws of the land your story has broke national news and hopefully enough money can be raised to help save your daughter. 5 star DAD in my book
