This past weekend we focused our efforts in Burgaw which is just outside of Wilmington. Specifically in the area of Whitestocking Road which parallels the Northeast Cape Fear River. Our brothers from Raleigh brought down a crew of 20 and we all met at Sand Hill AME Church, which has served as a central location for relief efforts and supply collection for area. This particular congregation had a list of 24 members homes that had flooding to the roof top that needed complete gutting. Our F3 brothers, along with other volunteer groups in the area were able to make a lot of progress on this list, but there are still houses that have not been started at this point. We also began the muck out process of Sand Hill Church this week alongside another area church. The completion of these homes and the church is our goal for this weekend. We know that there are still many areas along the Cape Fear River that are not receiving the same amount of volunteer manpower and supplies as the area we are currently serving. Needless to say, there will still be the need for volunteers, supplies and donations for months to come. We have updated our supplies list with the most needed items at this point in the recovery effort. Every dollar, supply donation and volunteered work hour is making a difference. As stated prior, this is going to be a marathon, not a sprint – but we are prepared to finish the race. We are eternally grateful for the outpouring of love for our region! We have met some amazing people and made some lifelong bonds along the way.
Today’s daily scriptures from the F3 Nation Q Source seemed very appropriate:
GALATIANS 6:9 “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
JEREMIAH 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
PHILIPPIANS 4:13 “I can do all things through him who strengthens me”

This past weekend has only continued to reveal the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence here in Eastern, North Carolina. Some families were just able to return home last week, a full three weeks after Florence's initial landfall just south of Wrightsville Beach. Unfortunately for the families of Margaret Wilson, as well as Ernie and Hsiao Moore, their homes as well as all possessions left behind when they evacuated were either completely destroyed or gone. The neighborhoods and locations that we served this weekend were not on the local news. We were alerted to these people's needs by our F3 Brothers here in Cape Fear. The two locations we were called to were both family of co-workers to our brothers Doug Messina (F3: Tiny Dancer) and Eric Scott (F3: Seahorse). There are so many of these small neighborhoods, side roads, out of the public eye areas that are not receiving publicity and are therefore not receiving the aid they so desperately need. We also helped move multiple elderly families, as there are several large scale apartment communities that have been forced to vacate all residents, hundreds of which are elderly, due to the extent of structural and water damage. There are also still roofs that need to be tarped, trees that need to be removed, and the list goes on. Our region has yet to realize the full extent of devastation left in Florence's wake. The number of displaced/homeless is growing by the day, and the known needs, whether monetary or labor, has as well. While the extent of damage is currently hard to fathom, Cape Fear is remaining positive and our community is doing the same. With that being said, we have reevaluated and reset our fund raising goal from $20,000 to $50,000 so we are able to continue to serve our community to the our full capability. If you cannot donate monetarily, please consider donating your time. We can find a place to put all able hands to work. Just show up and we will provide you with the tools needed.

Our brothers from F3 Raleigh were able to make the trip down to join us this weekend, to volunteer time and bring supplies, which was pretty special. They have also helped tremendously with our fundraising efforts. This is an example of what F3 Nation calls a #ShieldLock , and is one of the things that makes this group so great. https://f3nation.com/2018/03/04/shield-lock-q1-7/

First off, thank you for the overwhelming support everyone has shown for our community through volunteering your time, money and supplies. We would not have been able to help nearly as many of the victims that were effected in the wake of Florence without you. While we have made a ton of progress, we still have a long road ahead. This past Saturday, we were able to have another large convergence work day for our community. Our people were able to visit some of the most heavily flood impacted areas in our area with water receding enough to gain access late last week. While the damage is devastating in these areas and families are displaced, spirits remain high as our Cape Fear community continues to pull together and surround each other with love and support. Some of our guys have worked in some capacity to volunteer as many as 19 days straight at this point. As many have said, this recovery process is going to be a marathon, not a sprint. Thank you for all of the donations, supplies and manpower that have been donated as they are making a HUGE difference to the Cape Fear community! Please continue to help us share these people's stories and get those that need it the most the relief that is needed!
