Hi, my name is Lamont Carey. I am a former prisoner that has changed my life and started trying to save the lives of young people who are involved in the criminal justice system.  We need your help. Read on to find out more about the program and my journey through pictures.

Children make irrational and impulsive decisions based on limited life experiences and a lack of positive role models. I remember my own life as a young person feeling trapped and frustrated because all I witnessed was a community filled with hopelessness and I didn’t want their future to become my future.  My frustrations turned into anger, my life was lived on the streets and I as a teenager I became a statistic behind bars.  I was fortunate to have the mindset to take advantage of getting my G.E.D. along with some college education while incarcerated.  It transformed my life, gave me hope as it provided tools for the day I would leave the walls of separation behind me.  Once I was released, I rebuilt my life through hard work, being focused; having a sense of determination for what would become my life goals and aspirations.

I wanted to tell you more about my Passport To A New Life-Juvenile Program

This is our premier 6-month program. We are currently offering it bi-weekly at the Baltimore Pretrial Complex. We have 12 participants between the ages of 14-17 and 7 facilitators with diverse backgrounds that includes successfully reintegrated felons.

Our focus is rebuilding the juveniles from the inside out. They are currently learning personal development skills that includes effective communication, controlling impulsive behavior, breaking free from the street/prison codes, budgeting and creating a blueprint to success in their chosen careers, entrepreneurship and so much more.

We recently added gang intervention. We are excited to mention that we were able to resolve the gang conflict that had these young men living separate quarters. They are now living and programming together due to our involvement in ending the feud. This was accomplished within the first six weeks of our program.

This pilot program has been dependent on financial contributions. The monies received have covered some of the materials we need such as educational and entrepreneurial books, art paper and markers. These items will continue to allow the participants to express themselves in a productive and healthy manner thereby reducing conflict. We are hoping to secure additional funding to enhance the delivery of our continued services.

We need you. Your small donations will support our Passport To A New Life-Juvenile Program.  You can donate small amounts or whatever you choose. The youth are between the ages of 14-17. You can donate a dollar for each year they were born or you can donate a dollar for each year you were born! We are hoping you will join in our efforts to changing lives.

The young men in our program are very engaged. The positive impact we have had on them is astounding. With adequate funding we can provide more developmental hours for participants and expand the program. Our aim is to offer our services to the remaining 70 youth housed in Baltimore facilities. Eventually, we would like to offer the program to the adults within the state system and around the country.

This program is an effective tool to public safety. If we can redirect the paths of individuals who commit crimes, we can build stronger and safer communities.

We want to sincerely express our appreciation in advance for your time and consideration in becoming a part of our Movement, CONTACT VISITS.  Without your generosity, we would not be able to continue to help as many as we have in the past and many more in the future.
