If you know me, you know that when i have a problem I am one to figure it out on my own and i have a hard time asking for help. However, when you have children things change & you will do things you’ve never done before. My Bella & her dog Lucy have the tightest bond a child and her dog can have. Especially, during this pandemic & with school being virtual, they are the closest ever!

For a week now, our 5 yr old Maltese Lucy has been progressively getting more sick. It is now a week of check ups, labs, treatment of 3 different meds & constant observation. Yesterday late afternoon she started seizing. A long night in the ER and a neurologist visit this morning due to another seizure has left us with scary & sad information. It has been concluded that Lucy is suffering of something causing a neurological problem. I say “something” because we have reached a point where she needs a procedure that includes sedation, an MRI & a spinal tap along with the appropriate hospital care to determine details of 2 possible diagnosis. Both are scary but with the results we can conclude if we can treat it and lead her to recovery. For now, she is on anti-seizure meds and observation but not doing well.

I understand things are hard right now for all of us & i know some people will say “oh but it is a dog”. I wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t for my Bella. It has been heartbreaking to see her try to care for Lucy & not being able to do much. I want to do everything i can to save her best friend. We have already covered all the visits, labs, treatments so far but we need need your help. Anything helps & will be immensely appreciated by all of us but especially Bella & Lucy. Si me conocen, saben que cuando tengo un problema, soy alguien que puede resolverlo por mi cuenta y me cuesta mucho pedir ayuda. Sin embargo, cuando tienes hijos, las cosas cambian y harás cosas que nunca antes habías hecho. Mi Bella y su perrita Lucy tienen la amistad mas linda que una niña y su perro pueden tener. Especialmente, durante esta pandemia y con la escuela virtual, ¡están más unidas que nunca!

Desde hace una semana, nuestra Lucy de 5 años se ha ido enfermando cada vez más. Ya es una semana de chequeos, laboratorios, tratamiento de 3 medicamentos diferentes y observación constante. Ayer por la tarde empezó a tener convulsiones. Una larga noche en la sala de emergencias y la visita a un neurólogo esta mañana debido a otra convulsión nos ha dejado con información triste. Se ha concluido que Lucy sufre de algo que le provoca un problema neurológico. Digo “algo” porque hemos llegado a un punto en el que ella necesita un procedimiento que incluye sedación, resonancia magnética (MRI) y punción lumbar junto con la atención hospitalaria adecuada para determinar los detalles de 2 posibles diagnósticos. Ambos nos da miedo y tristeza, pero con los resultados podemos concluir si podemos tratarlo y llevarla a la recuperación. Por ahora, toma medicamentos anti convulsivos y está en observación, pero no esta bien.

Entiendo que las cosas están difíciles en este momento para todos nosotros y sé que algunas personas dirán "oh, pero es un perro". No estaría haciendo esto si no fuera por mi Bella. Ha sido desgarrador verla tratar de cuidar de Lucy y no poder hacer mucho. Quiero hacer todo lo posible para salvar a su mejor amiga. Ya hemos cubierto todas las visitas, laboratorios y tratamientos hasta ahora, pero necesitamos su ayuda. Cualquier cantidad ayuda y será inmensamente agradecida por todos nosotros, pero especialmente por Bella y Lucy. Si no puede donar, porfavor comparta esta pagina.
