Support for Miles
Donation protected
Hi my name is Karli & I am starting this gofundme to support my nephew Miles (who is a very sick little boy in hospital) & his family. His mom Erin is my older sister. She has had to take an immediate leave of absence from work and his dad Dave is temporarily off work as well while they see Miles through the thick of things in the Pediatric Critical Care Unit. Miles has a long journey ahead to recovery. Any money raised will go toward costs associated with gas, parking passes, bills, food, outpatient services and ongoing support that will likely be needed for Miles when he goes home at some point. This money is also intended to support his two brothers for travel costs to see Miles as he’s about an hour and a half away from home.
Here is the update on Miles, from May 11 — I will do my best to keep updates coming to this page as well.
Miles has been diagnosed with a severe case of influenza B with subsequent “multi-system involvement”. He has also been diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis. He suffered a small, non-ischemic stroke on the left side of his brain and he is currently battling a second unknown response to something in his eyes at the optic nerve. His right eye remains critically impacted, he has a team of ophthalmologists working to ensure his vision is protected as much as possible while they determine what is actually going on with his eyes. He has about 5 separate departments consulting on his case at present time. His temperature continues to remain high despite many antibiotics being used. His doctors are waiting for the results of a lumbar puncture to confirm a diagnosis of meningitis and the cause of the meningitis (bacterial, viral, etc). He has third spacing of his blood vessels which is causing fluid to back up into his tissues and particularly his lungs. He is hooked up to an EEG to monitor brain activity and seizures, he’s believed to have suffered a few seizures already. He is having an NG tube placed today which can relieve gas in the stomach and feed him as he hasn’t eaten in over 7 days.
He is currently in the pediatric critical care unit at Kingston General Hospital and will remain here for the next while.
