There's something I need to get off my chest

Hi friends,

 

As you may or may not know, I’m trans non binary and I’m having top surgery on 28 March! I feel like I’ve been transitioning gradually my whole life really. Still, this is obviously a big milestone and I’m very excited!

 

You may or may not know that trans healthcare in this country is in crisis (some links at the end on this). NHS waiting lists of *several years* force many people to go private. I’ve been able to pay for my surgery already - so no pressure to donate - but most trans people can’t.

 

This page is partly just to be visible and celebrate working through a shit ton of shame, unlearning a lot of internalised transphobia, and navigating a lot of gatekeeping and bureaucracy to get to this point. But it also seems like a good opportunity to tap up my middle class networks to support my community.

 

I’ve not worked out exactly where I’ll donate the money raised yet but either somewhere that directly supports trans people with healthcare costs (eg. We Exist) or a group like LGBTQ+ Outside which supports queer people who end up homeless (often as a result of prejudice & discrimination). You’ll just have to trust me for now!
