Help Sam Get Replacement Work Tools

Hi, my name is Lael. My husband, Jeff, and I are year-round volunteers with Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan’s Purse. The third week of November is National Collection Week for OCC. During that time, we collect gift-filled shoeboxes, which are sent to needy children around the world. On the last day of the project, we were at our church. Sam was volunteering his time as he’s done for the last 14 years, coming straight from work. We were loading the semi-trailer with shoeboxes when we ran out of space in the truck. Sam volunteered to go pick up his flatbed trailer and haul our remaining freight across town to another location that had space in their semi-trailer.

As Sam pulled into the parking lot, he realized that he hadn’t heard the familiar sound of toolboxes sliding across the floor of the truck. Sadly, on a day when we were all rejoicing over OCC’s success, Sam was agonizing over the loss of many of his work tools. You see, he discovered that many of his tools had been stolen from his truck earlier that afternoon. As soon as we heard the news, our team prayed, asking God to make a way.

Sam, a construction manager, is 32 years old, married with a one-year-old, and the sole breadwinner of the family. He lost costly tool batteries as well as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and assorted other tools. The replacement cost is valued at $6,500-$7,000! It turns out that Sam had a faulty key-fob that randomly unlocks his truck. As a result, his insurance will not cover the theft because there was no sign of a break in. The vehicle dealer won’t cover any of it either, so right now, the burden of replacing his tools falls on him.

Sam has a heart of gold. He has been participating in OCC since he was a kid. He was helping me with a project that is near and dear both to his heart and mine.
