update 4/9: happy update! Bert came home last night. He can not get enough of snuggles from us and is loving to eat. We are praying he continues to improve. Thank you all for the support and love over the past few days, i can never express truly how much it has meant to Matthew and I ❤️

update 4/7: update: Bert had to undergo another surgery to remove a portion of his small intestine as he was once again unable to keep food down and his stomach was retaining fluid and gas. Please keep Bert in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️

Update 4/6: Bert has been in the hospital since around 4 yesterday. He has been receiving IV fluid, antibiotics, and pain meds. We are awaiting more tests, but they feel he is moving in the right direction. Will keep you all updated <3 I have added a picture of Bert the nurse sent us last night❤️

Hi, our names are Matthew & Taylor and we are raising money to help our 9 month old kitten, Bert, be able to receive life saving treatment.

To give a little backstory, We found Bert on the side of the road at Penn State the day we were moving out after graduating college. He was 5 weeks old and less than a lb. Watching him grow up has been so so special.

Bert has made us cat people. We love to spoil him with new toys (and he loves to catch them at least 5 feet in the air like a football player), cuddle with him (his purrs can be heard from the other room), and just watch him grow up into his handsome orange boy self.

At the end of February, Bert began to stop eating and drinking and we knew something was off (Nothing comes between Bert and his food). We took him into the vet to find he had a bowel obstruction. With an expensive abdominal surgery, he was able to recover. We knew we would do anything for our little guy, so a little credit card debt would be alright.

5 weeks later, he stopped eating and drinking and became super lethargic, so we took him to the vet again. Bert had developed surgical adhesions in his small intestine and they needed to be fixed. We told ourselves that despite the cost, our Bert was worth it.

We now have reached a cross roads as Bert is not getting better post surgery. He has been unable to eat or drink much due to a gastrointestinal issue that arose only a few days after his second surgery. To hopefully save his life, the vet recommends a 2-4 day hospital stay within the next 24-72 hours, where he can receive treatment (IV fluids, antibiotics, feeding tube, IV meds, etc) and be monitored 24/7 by doctors and nurses.

This is where we are looking for any help. Due to the financial burden placed
on us from his first two surgeries, we are unable to pay his hospital stay that can reach upward 2700 dollars. We do not want to give up on him.

We are asking for any help to be able to get our sweet kitty Bert back to his silly and crazy self. He is a perfect fit to our little family and we can not imagine our lives without him. Thank you <3
