The Fire and EMS community are asking for help for one of our own that is in need. On March 10th, Thomas and Jessica Hutchinson welcomed their beautiful son into this world. Following the delivery, Jessica was diagnosed with endocarditis after a few weeks of being ill. Jessica was born with a congenital heart defect and underwent an aortic valve replacement in 2012. Jessica arrived at UF Health on May 17th for a surgical consult and continuation of care. Upon arriving to the ICU, Jessica went into cardiac arrest while being evaluated by the UF Health cardiothoracic surgery team. After nearly an hour of resuscitation, the surgical team successfully placed Jessica on a heart and lung machine called “ECMO” that ultimately saved her life. Jessica immediately awoke with no neurological deficits and started communicating with her husband and the surgical team. Jessica has since undergone major heart surgery and is currently in critical condition at UF Health. Jessica has a long road ahead and her prognosis is improving daily. We are raising funds to help her husband stay at bedside as much as possible and still provide for their three awesome children. Any and all help no matter the size is very much appreciated.
