Hello world,
My name is Jeffrey. My family and I live in a small town in Alabama. Have been here for a while, but recently things have gotten substantially more difficult, and we are on the verge of eviction for the fist time in our lives.
I have a loving wife, with two children, ages 11 & 3. We home school cause its better for us, our oldest has extreme ADHD and hypersensitivity, possibly autistic, and no child care payments either. Then there's my wonderful wife. She is high functioning autistic as well and has extreme anxiety, so most days she can barely leave the house without a panic attack. Another good reason to homeschool. Then our youngest is learning as he goes and along for the ride.
For 11 years I had worked at GameStop until they let me go in April for not punishing my employees for doing their job correctly. And I just couldn't ethically do it. So I landed a job at TJ Maxx, which is wonderful, but it's not paying the bills. I am constantly striving to move up (next in line for key carrier) or find a better paying employment for my qualifications within a reasonable distance from home. But I may not be able to recover from my situation in the 25 days I have left from when I posted this, till I am evicted.
We have applied for government assistance with Section 8. That's the reason we moved to the apartments we are in now. They accept S8 vouchers. That process started in September when we moved in. The local Housing department only accepts S8 applications on Wednesdays, between the hours of 9 AM and 2 PM. Their office hours are Mon-Thurs 9-3. The first day I made it there, I learned about the 2 PM cutoff, and I wasn't going to make it back in time. Was then informed I could not do it the following week due to Audits that were going on, and would have to come the week after that. Well life happens and I missed the Oct. 11th chance. The following week on the 18th I'm there super early with all my documents they double check it and say ok we will let you know when its processed.
Come November 13th I get the notice to "Pay or Vacate" (30 days). The 14th, I call the Housing department to be told that it has not even been started yet. I informed them of my situation with the imminent threat of eviction. The lady feeling bad for me said she would try and get it processed that say or as soon as possible. That would then cover us from December on. But we still have our past due balance currently to pay. I have a couple hundred and could return the measly $300 worth of Christmas present I've gotten the kids but it still wouldn't be enough. I've offered to do odd jobs but that's hard to do around here with my skills (Mostly computer/IT).
After the first of the year with taxes plan is to pay off our car loan, which would give us, an additional $330 a month and I could have my promotion or a new job by then. Our financial recovery can then begin. We don't have a very big family, and I've reached out to them for help but they can only do so much. I did not come from a very wealthy family line unfortunately.
So I have come to the mass ocean of the internet in hope someone out there could share some of their Christmas Spirit.
Be safe, be kind, and know that you are appreciated.
Thank you all.
