Brandon's "Walking Off The War"

Donation protected
My name is Ashley Ramos, very proud wife of Brandon, a Navy Seabee combat veteran who has the wonderful opportunity to hike the Appalachian Trail with the Warrior Hike.  From March to September, Brandon will be hiking from Georgia to Maine with a group of veterans in an effort to “Walk Off The War” and recover from the resulting PTSD.

During these six months, I will be taking over Brandon’s monthly expenses as he will have to leave his job, and could use some assistance.  The funds that we raise will go towards a monthly stipend for Brandon to use on the trail and vehicle payments.

This means so much to both of us; Brandon will have the opportunity to work through his PTSD with other vets in a unique environment, and I’m excited for him to have this experience and the resulting benefits (stress relief, job placement and comradery). Your assistance, no matter how small, will be a huge help and will greatly reduce our mutual stress level during this time.

Thank you for your consideration, and even if you’re unable to help financially, emotional support is appreciated as well.  If you’re interested in sending Brandon notes of encouragement along the way, I’ll be happy to facilitate passing them along with care packages.  Thank you all again for your love and support, it really is appreciated!

To learn more about the Warrior Hike, please visit their website  for a better explanation than I can give.  A short synopsis: In an effort to mimic the extended travel times of previous wars which gave veterans more time to process their time in a combat zone before coming home, the Marine Capitan who started this program hiked the full 2,185 mile long AT in 2012 and realized how therapeutic this would be for other wounded warriors.  The “Walk Off The War” Program which supports veterans transitioning from their military service by thru-hiking America’s National Scenic Trails.  This support includes providing the necessary equipment & supplies, transportation and lodging during occasional breaks from the trail, and veteran job placement after the hike.  If you prefer, you can donate to them directly or purchase small items like a t-shirt, hat, patch or sticker.  I know I’m getting a t-shirt and will wear it proudly!
