Note from Lisa's husband Marty from August 14, 2018

Hi there. Although many of you are aware of Lisa’s recent breast cancer diagnosis, we want to lay out the entire story here as we know there are still many questions. Lisa had a diagnostic mammogram about 3 weeks ago because she felt a lump in her right breast. She then had an initial needle biopsy which came back negative. Thankfully, the radiologist at Novant was not satisfied, and called her back for an additional biopsy which revealed the cancer. We received the formal diagnosis two weeks ago on Monday, July 30th; Invasive ductal carcinoma triple negative. It has been a whirlwind of appointments since then and quite a few ups and downs. Initially, we were told that it was about 5 cm. That was a scary day. The following Monday, Lisa had an MRI which showed the growth to be smaller at 3 cm, and more importantly, that it is not in the lymph nodes or the other breast. That was a good day! The same day she had a port put in her left breast where the chemo will be administered. The plan at this point is to undergo 2 cycles of chemo: The first round is once every 2 weeks for 8 weeks of two types of chemotherapy. The second round will be every 2 weeks for 8 weeks for one chemotherapy. After a 4 week recovery period, Lisa will then have a double mastectomy.
Lisa’s first chemo treatment was yesterday, and it hit her hard and fast. She was nauseated and completely wiped out pretty much immediately. She is coming around this morning and feeling better, but will probably be in bed for most of the day recovering.
