My niece Henley Thurman was admitted to the NICU at the University of Kentucky Children’s hospital where she has been diagnosed with Mis-C, a multi-system inflammatory syndrome in children. This is a serious condition that is associated with COVID-19 where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs. So much of this illness is still unknown but Henley is currently undergoing multiple treatments and testing to stabilize her and lower the inflammation of her lungs, heart and other vital organs.

Henley’s parents Lindsay and Jared are staying with her around the clock and I am starting a fundraiser in hopes that they won’t have to worry about anything but Henley and getting her home safe. The family had saved paid time off which was exhausted due to the previous Covid-19 diagnosis’ and the loss of Jared’s father and Henley’s beloved Papaw less than 2 weeks ago to Cancer. They also have another daughter at home who has also been diagnosed with COVID-19. There is no way of knowing when Henley will get better or get to come home as it’s literally moment to moment and more unknowns than knowns.

I can’t even imagine the fear they must feel, but it is definitely a helpless feeling that I can’t be there with and for them. The main thing they want and need is prayers. They are all so strong and they would never ask for anything but that, but I am doing what I can to help make sure they can both stay with Henley without an overwhelming amount of financially stress. I also know that there are so many who are finding themselves in similar situations and I would never want anyone to give if they can’t. They wouldn’t want that either.

I know they will read all of them to Henley when she doesn’t have to be sedated anymore. I will also use this page to pass along every update I receive.
