Every little bit helps

Sometimes in life you’re faced with a situation where you know you need to help someone, and think to yourself: “If more people get involved, we could help much more”.

My co-worker Lloyd is a beautiful person. He’s been with our company for 35 years, and has dedicated his working life to making sure that our warehouse is clean, garbage is changed, floors are swept, empty boxes are broken-down and recycled, all internal orders are delivered with a big smile on his face and a joke, story about his love of doughnuts or his broken TV remote, or how Christmas is coming and he’s hoping to finally stay off the top of the company Christmas NAUGHTY list.

Lloyd’s wife and daughter are both handicapped as well. A few months ago, his personal situation got worse when his wife had a stroke and had to be hospitalized. I told him if I could help in any way possible to let me know. A few weeks later, Lloyd let me know that his wife had terminal cancer with 6 months-to-a-year to live, and was devastated that they would never be a family unit again.

Every week, Lloyd calls to update me on his wife. I try to be strong for him, but his heart is in such pain it’s difficult for him to speak, explaining that he’s doing the best he can and he misses his wife so much. Admittedly, Lloyd was always “the breadwinner” and hasn’t been the one to cook, clean, care for his daughter, pay bills, etc., so is now finding it difficult to manage all of these life responsibilities.

For the last while, Lloyd and his family have relied on his 84-year-old mother to cook, drive the family to see the wife in palliative care, get groceries, and take his daughter to special Olympics bowling, amongst many other things.Lloyd and I also discussed costs once his wife passes away, as he’s on long term disability (helping his wife).

Sadly, Lloyd’s wife passed away this morning and now he’s left to manage life for him and his daughter.

My request: I've created this GoFund me page to help ease some of the burden on Lloyd and his family, and attempt to alleviate some of the stress on his mother. Any extra money would assist with funeral costs and basic living expenses for the family. Lloyd was extremely grateful for the idea of people wanting to help.

As I’ve said, Lloyd is a gentleman with a beautiful soul, always has a smile, and is going through a terrible time in life. I truly believe if we all contribute what we can, we can really make a difference in Lloyd and his daughter’s life.

Thank you in advance for your help. It is appreciated immensely.
