Help Cookie's Surgery
Donation protected
If you pass by Carlyle Road in Cambridge, you may have come across a local celebrity, the ginger cat, Cookie, around Alexander Gardens.
He is always very friendly and likes good company. However, on Thursday after midnight, Cookie came home seriously wounded. His left jaw was bleeding, and his face looked uneven. I immediately took him to the emergency vet. I was told that this was a typical case of a cat being hit by a car and that his left jaw had been broken from both ends.
After the emergency treatment, I took Cookie to the RSPCA, which offers subsidized pet treatment. However, the surgery to fix his jaw is complex, expensive, and only offered by a specialist orthopedist vet. Therefore, the only option I have is to accept the surgery via the University Vet Hospital. In total, the expenses will amount to £5.000 (including the fundraising costs). Without this operation, Cookie will not be able to eat. So far, they have had to place a feeding tube into his neck in order to give him medication and liquid food.
I am a PhD student living on a scholarship, and a single mother, looking after a 9-year-old daughter. This situation exceeds my budget tremendously. Even though I am eligible for financial aid, I am told that there is none. When I asked the vet at the RSPCA, "But then, what is the alternative for people who cannot afford this?", I was told the alternative was "euthanasia". No way...
I absolutely cannot find it in my heart to kill an animal when a life-saving treatment exists, simply because of money. Saving Cookie is all that matters now, and I know how much he means not only to myself but also to my young daughter. Therefore, your solidarity with Cookie and our family is strongly needed. We love Cookie so much that we will use every penny we have to save his life, and all your donations will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for reading through this, feeling for Cookie and his family, and for your good wishes. We need every single one of them.
P.S. I am including photos of Cookie and the receipts I have received so far. I will keep on posting the receipts and medical proof as I receive them.
