In November of 2024, a mass was discovered on Dan’s bladder. As a transplant patient (hello new lungs), extra precautions needed to be taken, so he was sent to the Mayo Clinic to have it removed and biopsied. In early January, his doctor removed as much of it as possible and sent it to the lab.
Stage 4 bladder cancer was discovered - a very progressive, terminal illness.
Later that month, he returned to Mayo to discuss treatment options to slow the spread and have a PET scan. The new scan revealed that the cancer had already spread outside the bladder and into other organs.
Dan’s next step was to begin Monotherapy - a treatment similar to chemo but it only targets the cancerous cells. While he felt good when the treatment first began, it has since caused more problems than benefits:
Loss of appetite
Weight loss
Back pain
Muscle weakness
Wan skin
Low energy
Poor sleep
And worst of all - red, itchy patches of skin covering his body
After undergoing this therapy for about two months, Dan and his oncologists decided it was best to stop the treatments.
Now we finally get to the good news!
Dan was able to see a holistic doctor who recommended that he try a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. After just one appointment, Dan’s symptoms have greatly improved. He has now used the chamber four times with great results:
His appetite is returning
His complexion is improving
His energy levels are increasing
His bladder function is improving, allowing for better sleep
His pain is subsiding
After seeing these encouraging results, his doctors are recommending he use the chamber three times a week for the next 90 days. Here’s where you come in: these treatments are not covered by insurance. If you know Dan and Nola Cox, you know they are not the kind of people who ask for money. They do, however, need help to cover the cost of the oxygen chamber and for expenses on his past and future visits to the Mayo Clinic. As uncomfortable as it can be to ask for money, we are desperate for Dan to receive the care he needs without draining their accounts. Anything you feel led to give means so much to Dan and his family.
The entire Cox family is so grateful for the opportunity Dan has to utilize this chamber to improve his quality of life. We are even more grateful to serve a God who heals and still provides miracles. Please join us as we continue to pray God’s will over Dan’s life and that He would deliver him from this cancer, just as He walked him through his double lung transplant 11 years ago. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3: 5-6
Thank you so much for reading, praying, and giving.❤️
