Maverick's Liver Transplant Journey
Donation protected
We are the Farr and Perkins family and Maverick is our newest member. He is our little star.
Unfortunately, at just 1 year old, Maverick urgently needs a liver transplant.
He was born with a rare genetic liver disease called Alpha-1 Anti-Trypsin Deficiency. When he was just 1 month old, the heartbreaking diagnosis was confirmed. The odds his liver would develop properly were in his favor and we were hopeful. But his little body is not absorbing proteins and he is not gaining weight.
Maverick's condition continues to worsen and at 8 months old, he was diagnosed with cirrhosis, liver damage leading to liver failure. Specialists have confirmed that a transplant is needed as soon as possible and is Maverick’s only hope. He now has a feeding tube, which will help him gain weight in preparation for the transplant surgery.
During Maverick’s short life, he has undergone many painful procedures and tests. He is so brave and greets all of his doctors and nurses with his beautiful smile. Because of this, one of his doctors refers to Maverick as "a star." He is our star, a miracle and light giving hope and happiness to all who know him. We love him dearly.
Maverick is on the Liver Transplant Waiting List. Maverick's mom and a close family friend are currently undergoing extensive testing to see if they are a perfect donor candidates. If one of them is a match, they will move forward with the transplant as soon as possible.
As you can imagine, the cost of a liver transplant and the subsequent follow-up care is great. We are hoping to raise enough money to assist with these costs so Maverick's parents can focus solely on Maverick, both during and after his transplant.
Any donation means the world Maverick's family.
Thank you for reading Maverick’s story and supporting Maverick and his family. Feel free to share Maverick’s story with your family and friends. We will post updates here throughout his journey. We are sure as you follow his journey you will fall in love with this sweet boy and realize what a bright star he is!
