Hello Friends,
As many of you know, our good friend Dave has been courageously battling metastatic lung cancer for a full year. Under the care of his team at the Mayo Clinic, he began an oral chemotherapy pill that—right now—is successfully preventing further growth of his cancer. While there is no cure, Dave is fighting with everything he has to spend more time with the people he loves. Every six weeks, he undergoes scans to monitor how well he’s responding to treatment.
Dave’s company has stood by him throughout this journey, offering tremendous support. But at the start of this year, when Dave transitioned to long term disability, he and Cindy were required to change insurance plans. Since then, Cindy has been working tirelessly to secure approval for his chemotherapy medication, pain management prescriptions, and other essential treatments. Despite her efforts, the chemo pill that has been helping Dave is still not approved for coverage.
Over the past year, Dave and Cindy have paid out of pocket for portions of his scans, hospital stays, and medication co pays, and the financial strain has become overwhelming. Throughout all of this, Dave’s friends have stepped up in incredible ways — helping with housecleaning, yard work, and many of the day-to-day responsibilities that have become difficult for Dave and Cindy to manage on their own. Even with this support, the medical expenses continue to grow beyond what they can keep up with.
As so many families have experienced, cancer doesn’t just attack the body—it brings a level of financial hardship no one is ever prepared for. Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket expenses for chemotherapy, specialist visits, scans, and lifesaving medications have become unmanageable. The cost of essential drugs continues to rise, and the treatments Dave needs to maintain stability are far beyond what he and Cindy can afford alone.
This fundraiser will help cover:
• High-cost prescription medications
• Chemotherapy and other critical treatments
• Diagnostic tests and specialist appointments
• Transportation to and from treatment
• Unexpected costs critical to his care
• Basic living expenses
• Lost income when Dave cannot work
Dave’s current medications have played a crucial role in stabilizing his condition and giving him much needed consistency. Our goal is to ensure he can continue on this positive path—maintaining access to the therapies that help him manage his health and preserve his quality of life.
Every contribution—no matter the amount—eases a tremendous burden and brings real hope during an incredibly difficult time. Your generosity allows Dave and Cindy to focus on healing rather than worrying about how to pay for the care he urgently needs.
If you’re unable to give, we ask for your thoughts, prayers, and positive energy to help lift Dave and his family through this challenging chapter.
Dave is a wonderful man and one of the funniest people we know. He loves sports, music, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He plays to win—whether he’s playing cards, bags, softball, or any other game. That fierce competitive spirit, combined with your support and encouragement, will give him the strength he needs to keep fighting.
Thank you for standing with Dave, for supporting Cindy and the girls, and for showing the compassion that makes moments like this a little less heavy.
