Most people know my precious niece Avery Bolin. She's the adorable 8 month old with big blue eyes and a smile that will melt your heart! What most people may not know, is that she was recently diagnosed with a condition called Craniosynostosis or "synostosis".
Sagittal Craniosynostosis is the most common type, where the infants' head is elongated resulting in the shape of a 'boat'. Some have a protruding forehead and a bony protuberance at the back of the skull.
At birth, the skull is made up of multiple bones which are held together by seams, called sutures. The sutures are supposed to remain open as long as the brain grows. Synostosis is early closure of these sutures resulting in limited or distorted head growth. This can also cause raised pressure inside the skull.
It is imperative that Avery has surgery to correct the shape of her skull to allow proper growth of her brain. She was referred to Seattle Children's Hospital for the procedure. Avery's surgery is scheduled for August 10th 2015, when she turns just 9 months old.
I wanted to create this account for the Bolin family to help with medical and travel expenses not covered by insurance. My sister Danielle, and her family will need to travel to Seattle for Avery's pre-ops; including a stay of a minumum of 6 days. Avery's recovery will be at least 2 weeks before she heals.
Jacob and Danielle work very hard to support their family but we all know how costly medical procedures can be. Sometimes, things happen that are out of our control and can take a toll on us financially. As much anxiety and stress this may bring them, I hope that we can ease some of the burden with financial help for Avery's surgery. Anything helps and everything is appreciated!
