WHO WE ARE:
The team at Zuma’s is small but mighty, providing 24/7 care for our herd of over 60+ rescued animals regardless of the rain, snow, or shine. Each team member has a diverse background, but that’s what makes it all come together—their skills and dedication mesh to support animal rescue and mental health support for our community.
WHAT WE DO:
Jodi and Paul Messenich began their journey with horses in 1995 at a boarding facility in Colorado.
Zuma was the first horse to join the family, a feisty chestnut mare who started the Messenichs on a journey that would forever change their lives. Quickly, the family grew from one to eight horses, prompting the purchase of land and building American Sport Horses. The family competed in the Hunter/Jumper show circuit throughout the United States until Victoria, their daughter, went to college in 2004. It was then the family rescued their first batch of seven horses, and after four years (and 20+ more rescue horses), Zuma’s Rescue Ranch was established as a charitable 501(c)(3) organization.
Since its inception, the family and their supporters have saved hundreds of horses and changed the lives of as many (or more) humans. We are part of a network of life saving professionals, partnering rescued animals with people struggling with mental health challenges. As a former advisory board member for the ASPCA and HSUS for 10 years, Zuma’s has networked to save more than one thousand horses.
Since 2008 the operations at Zuma’s has changed and or saved the lives of thousands of the most vulnerable members of our community. We have a robust group of 4000 registered volunteers that support our efforts, and we need funding to add fiscal stability for our life saving programs. Join our efforts with a donation today!
