In June, while on a family vacation to Panama City, a trip to the emergency room for Luke Bruner led to the discovery of a brain tumor. Luke was air cared to a Children's Hospital in Gainesville where he had emergency surgery the next day to remove the tumor which was attached to a cyst. Over the next week the family discovered that the tumor was not cancerous and they were able to travel home to Indiana one week after the surgery.
Yesterday, four weeks after his surgery, Luke's wound began leaking fluid. A trip to Cincinnati Children's Hospital confirmed that it was spinal fluid. Luke had emergency surgery again early this morning (July 20) to insert drains for fluid and to patch the leak within his brain. After 5 1/2 hours of surgery the drains were in and the leak was patched. The doctors think the bone may have been infected and Luke is now on 3 antibiotics to fight off any potential infection.
Luke will be in the hospital for 2-3 weeks and then will continue to recover at home for an additional 3 weeks. It will be a long road to recovery as he cannot go to any public places or have any children visit (besides his siblings) while he recovers. During this time, his mom will be unable to work as she cares for him and his dad will be taking time off as well as needed.
Please pray for strength and healing for this wonderful family during this tough time and consider donating to help them cover any needed expenses. Thank you!
