Zubeia is a 1 year old American Staffordshire Terrier who was recently diagnosed with severe pulmonic stenosis after her vet detected a 4/6 heart murmur.
"Pulmonic stenosis is a congenital heart defect of the semilunar valve that is between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery (great vessel that takes blood to the lungs). The leaflets of this valve are thickened and/or partially fused together. Sometimes the supporting structure known as the annulus is also narrow. Dogs that have this congenital defect have a wide range of stenosis to include very mild to severe obstruction to blood flow from the heart to the lungs."
In summary, her heart has to work extra hard to pump blood to her lungs. If left untreated, Zubi's severe case of pulmonic stenosis will worsen in time, leading to more heart problems and potential complications, including sudden death.
Pulmonic stenosis is treated with a surgery called balloon valvuloplasty. A balloon is inserted into the narrowed valve, inflated, and then removed, hopefully leaving a clearer path for easier blood flow. The surgery will cost somewhere around $5,000 and if successful, could give Zubi a long, healthy, relatively normal life. Her parents will be taking her to the veterinary hospital at Oregon State University for the surgery, but they can't schedule it until they have the money for it in hand.

Zubi loves to bite tall grass!
Zubeia is an extremely affectionate and hilariously goofy puppy. Her favourite activities include meeting people, kissing people, hugging people, and going to the vet so she can see more people! She sleeps in bed between her parents, under the covers and sharing their pillows. She loves to run and play with other dogs at the dog park, but hasn't been back since her diagnosis due to exercise restrictions because of her condition. Shortly before her diagnosis, Zubi realized she loves to play in water at the beach. Her favourite foods include iceberg lettuce and Whimzees dental treats! She is incredibly intelligent, always surprising her parents with her cleverness and ability to learn. Zubeia touches the lives of everyone she meets, and hopefully with surgery, she will continue to do so for many more years.
