Help Ryan Walk Again – Urgently Needed Hip Replacement

Hi, my name is Alanna, and I'm fundraising for my partner, Ryan.

Ryan is only 38 years old, but right now, he’s living in constant, debilitating pain. He urgently needs two total hip replacements, and without them, his quality of life continues to deteriorate. Even a short five-minute walk can leave him in agony.

Who is Ryan?

Ryan is a proud veteran who spent 12 years serving in the British Army, in both the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment and the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. He completed multiple tours in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Northern Ireland, before being medically discharged in 2015.

During his service, Ryan experienced several challenging and high-stress situations, which resulted in permanent hearing loss and severe tinnitus. He also lives with PTSD. Years of physical strain throughout his military career have taken a toll on his body, and his hips have now deteriorated to the point where he is almost bone-on-bone in both joints.

Why Are We Asking for Help?

The pain has taken over Ryan’s daily life. He can no longer enjoy the things he once loved — walking the dogs, skiing, swimming, or even doing basic household tasks. He takes around 12 tablets a day just to manage the pain, but it's still often at a 7 out of 10 or worse.

His business has also suffered — he’s had to scale back his work, reduce client services, and bring in additional staff to support areas he can no longer manage. As you can imagine, the financial impact has been significant.

We've already made many adjustments to support Ryan, including purchasing an automatic car, investing in an electric bed, and sourcing equipment to ease everyday tasks. But none of this addresses the root of the problem: his hips.

The Goal

Ryan is on the NHS waiting list for surgery, but there’s no clear timeline — and because of his age, he’s not considered a priority. Private surgery is his best chance at regaining his independence and quality of life.

Each hip replacement costs approximately £12,000 privately. Our goal is to raise donations to fund at least one of the surgeries and give Ryan the chance to live a full, active life again.
