Wheels for John
This fundraiser is for our friend, John Perrault. John is an outgoing, fun-loving, generous human being. He is also an avid and skilled
mountain biker, kayaker and cross-country skier.
About 18 months ago, John was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. There is no cure. John has been battling hard to
continue participating in the activities that he had always pursued so passionately and that provided him such joy and camaraderie
throughout his life.
But about six months ago, John had to abandon his mountain bike, as the disease has now sapped the strength, balance and fine motor
skills required to ride a two-wheeled bicycle. This is where the need for new “Wheels for John” comes in!
John recently took a test drive on this electric-assisted, recumbent tricycle, which is offered for sale locally by an amazing organization
called All Out Adventures (alloutadventures.org). Buying from AoA is a win-win, as the profits from this purchase will directly benefit the
180 free or low-cost adaptive recreation programs they run each year throughout Massachusetts for people with disabilities, seniors, and Veterans.
The purchase of this remarkable piece of machinery will allow John to get back on the trails again this summer to feel the wind in his face
with his friends by his side. John’s use of this trike would be both recreation and therapy and would help restore and preserve John’s
recreational and social opportunities significantly.
The money raised would fund the $3679 (plus tax) purchase of the motorized, recumbent tricycle, as well as accessories like ramps for
vehicle loading, etc. Any additional funds raised would be applied toward John’s anticipated future need for a motorized wheelchair.
All that have the pleasure to know John would agree that he is a very deserving individual, and one who would be the first to write this
request on behalf of someone else, and the last to ask for help for himself. So, his bicycling posse is now stepping in to make this humble
request on his behalf.
John and all his friends and family will be super-grateful for any donation you can make. And also, very appreciative if you can please share this post on your FB timeline and/or other social media outlets. Thank you!
