Jackson, my soul dog.
My shadow. My familiar.
Magic, cloaked in silver fur.

He was diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy in 2021.
Since then, we’ve done everything we can
to give him a good, comfortable life for as long as possible.

His seizures started every 6–8 weeks.
Then weekly.
Sometimes multiple in a day.

Now they come in clusters—
3, 5, sometimes more—
one after another,
then again hours later.

Each time, they take a little more from him.

The medications help.
Until they don’t.
We add more.
Increase doses.

Four times a day—6am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm.
Watching his body, his liver,
to see how much more it can carry.

In the last six months, he’s changed.
He’s lost weight.
His body is tense.
There’s fear and anxiety where there used to be ease.

After 13 seizures in 24 hours,
he hasn’t really been the same.
And in my heart, I know—
He’s tired.
He’s ready.

Most of his seizures happen between 2am and 6am,
which makes hospital visits even more costly.
Even without emergencies, his care costs about 700 a month.
In the last six weeks alone, expenses have surpassed 3,000.
His upcoming end-of-life care will be about 1,200.

I’ve taken unpaid time off work to be with him—
to make these days count.

A few more rips.
Cheeseburgers.
Letting him take me on a walk,
wherever his nose wants to go.

My son is coming from New Brunswick to say goodbye.
We’re planning one last dog park party.
His favorite people. His favorite dogs.
Celebrating the amazing years we had—
and that despite it all,
we got to see those little eyebrows turn grey.

If you’re able to help—by donating or sharing—
it would mean everything.

Your support allows me to focus on loving Jackson through his final chapter,
without the heavy weight of how I'll manage the costs—
so I can give him the peace, the comfort, and the dignity he deserves.
