This new chapter of Colleen's life began the morning of Saturday, June 17th. While working out at the gym, Colleen collapsed after suffering a ruptured blood vessel in her head (brain aneurysm). Thanks to the quick response from her gym and first responders, Colleen was transported to Atrium Health (Wake Forest Baptist to us locals). She had a coil placed at the location of the rupture to stop the bleeding.
Colleen is currently in the Neurosurgery ICU recovering and waiting for the excess blood to clear so that her brain can begin processing information correctly. Although Colleen is in great physical shape, given the severity of her injury, the medical team has said to expect a marathon in terms of recovery with at least 2 weeks in Neurosurgery ICU, followed by time in ICU step down then rehab/therapy.
Since Saturday's events, the family has been traveling along a road that has an uncertain destination. With the family spending most of their current time at the hospital, the immediate focus on meals has already been covered. Many others have missed this opportunity to offer their own love and support.
After speaking with the family, they believe this Go Fund Me will provide others (if inclined) an opportunity to show their love and support for Colleen. These funds would be directly used to help cover costs associated with the Neurosurgery ICU and hospital stay, therapies, and necessary home modifications.
We appreciate every one of you and we are so thankful for your prayers for our friend, sister, mother, and wife. We trust in God's promises and believe there is no price tag we can place on the prayers you are sending up for Colleen. We are seeing them work, please keep them coming.
With love and permission from Colleen's family,
Marie (family friend)
From Sean:
First, let me share a collective "Thank You" from our entire family for the overwhelming displays of love and support this community has offered us through this unexpected event. The comments on Caring Bridge, on Facebook, by text, email, etc. have often gotten us emotional as you have shared your love for Colleen.
Please continue to pray for the release of excess blood in the brain, no complications and restored voluntary nervous system function.
Love y'all,
Sean
