Financial Struggle as I Leave Florida Education
Donation protected
To say the past 15 months have been tough on my family and I is an understatement. Many of you already know the long, winding story about what happened in June of 2022, and how I felt broken and defeated and decided to leave teaching. (If not, you can google Abbey Cooke Flagler Live) Then, a former colleague, who I highly respect, opened a school and I thought the best choice for me was to go teach there. It was not what was promised (or even close), so I have officially quit teaching. My mental health can’t take it anymore. Now, I am trying (so, so hard) to find a new path with a new career and while it is demoralizing to get daily rejection emails I have remained steadfast in my efforts to get a job outside of the education world. I apply for multiple jobs daily! Due to our car situation, my new career path must be remote.
I have finally landed a job that starts September 8th. While it is nowhere near what I was making as a teacher, it is something. I haven't been paid yet which is why I am making this Go Fund Me.
To add to our challenges, my husband’s hours at his job have also been cut. He is a talented carpenter, but his company is just slow right now. He is doing all that he can to support us.
Since being forced out of our old rental due to increased rent, we have depleted every single cent of our checking and savings accounts to move into our new duplex. The rent is less than what we would have had to pay if we were able to stay in our old house, but it is still $1800.
This leads me to the very uncomfortable reason I am writing. We do not have anything right now, and I mean that sincerely. The money that has been coming in from my husband’s job I have had to use for gas, groceries, and necessities. All of our bills, and I mean all, are past due and I do not have the means to pay them or the rent that was due September 1st. The last day to pay “on time” was September 5th, so now I am getting late fees added daily and am in danger of eviction. This is beyond humiliating. I hate reaching out to anyone like this. We just truly are completely out of options. With late fees, rent is currently sitting at $1,935.
Please know that I have exhausted every other option that I could think of. Neither of us has any family to speak of. I even applied for some shady looking loans, but (probably thankfully) was not approved for them. I work two side jobs to bring in whatever extra I can.
I know that at these crazy times everyone is their own issues going on, so I am ashamed to even ask. I am beyond grateful for any help that you can offer. I know it's not much, but it is all I can offer right now.
If you find it in your heart to donate, please know that every cent will go towards outstanding bills. If you are uncomfortable with this platform, I also have the options below available:
