Your kindness will make Garry so happy, to go home

Greetings friends, once again this is Elizabeth Rhue, it’s been a while and thankfully my husband Mr Garry Rhue has made some progress, since he suffered from the stroke last year.

His trach was finally removed (as can be seen in the picture) and he also recently passed the swallowing test, so the plan is to slowly wean him off g-tube, which he still has.

Having said that he has had a rough time at the nursing facility because even with their best efforts, they are seriously understaffed and the service is not good. One of the things that proves this, is, that since November, 2022, he still has the same bedsore which they seem to have been unable to treat completely. This has been very frustrating for me and excruciatingly painful for him.

The other challenge that I have is that we cannot afford the facility, they would like to keep him there long term and that would mean that we loose everything for them to take care of him.

The V.A. Is paying a small premium for his medical bills and the application for Medicaid is ongoing, but the cost would still be so high that they would eventually need all he has including our house.

I would like to continue working, so as to sustain our family, (considering that we had an extra income when he cooked, before he got sick).

For these reasons. I have decided to take him home to give him more personalized care. This requires that I get a team on the ground, who can take care of him while I work. I really believe that this would give him a better chance for recovery.

Even though his insurance will eventually “follow him” home, initially I will have to foot all the expenses until his insurance kicks in. The expenses which are quite high, include a lot of dressing for his sacral wound, (hopefully it can become a thing of the past).

I am requesting for financial assistance so as to cover the expenses of setting up everything that he needs for this transition.
