The Goal...
Our goal is to relieve some of the financial pressures on Jim and Lisa, so Jim can focus on his healing and treatments.
The Need...
Jim was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in July 2020. His doctor gave him a prognosis of one to five years. Chemo treatments have begun for a total of 12 cycles, every two weeks; with another possible surgery towards the end of 2020. But this we know -- Jim wants to win against cancer and his family needs him!
A little bit about Jim…
Jim has been employed full-time for a nationwide office retailer, as well as being a substitute science teacher two days a week for the last few years. They have medical insurance through Jim’s job; but as we know, there are co-pays which can be very costly. He is on disability while having treatments but continues to do vital computer tasks for Lisa’s therapy business. He also loves the world of comics, superheroes and graphics.
A little bit about Lisa…
Lisa works full-time as a Marriage & Family Therapist (MFT). Those who know her are aware that she has was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) a few years ago and has expensive medications and treatments as well. She is also maintaining the many expenses as well – rent, utilities, taxes, etc. Since Covid-19, she has seen a reduction of clients, but maintains a schedule of mostly six days a week, in spite of her own health challenges. Her work includes helping children with autism/ADHD through Neurofeedback.
A little bit about the family...
Jim and Lisa have two kids who just graduated from college in 2020. Thanks to high school AP classes, younger son, Tommy, was able to finish a year early and is interviewing for jobs in marketing or business whenever he can.
Older daughter, Jackie, completed a childhood education degree and will be working towards completing her teaching credentials which requires student teaching in a classroom whenever that can safely happen. She is lovely and creative, and in the days when children’s birthday parties were allowed, she often played the part of a princess!
Other ways to help...
If you would like to sponsor or gift specific items, here are some ideas. You may also have ideas of your own from fighting cancer yourself or know someone who has.
If you want to send or deliver items, please message me privately for their home address. If you live in South Orange County, a pick up may be arranged. Our goal is to make this a supportive, community effort.
Specific Needs, Favorite Things…
· Ensure (Strawberry or Vanilla) One case of generally costs about $35-45.
· Grocery Cards (Albertsons, CVS, Costco)
· Gas cards
· Baskin & Robbins gift card (favorite ice cream: Pralines and Cream)
· Snapple Tea (regular flavor)
· ICE drinks (low sugar)
· Housecleaning
I will add to the list as needed. Please feel free to ask questions. This is my first time organizing a Go Fund Me campaign and I welcome your feedback.
Thank you so very much for your help – and most of all, thank you for your love and prayer support!
