- I
Not much to say. It's your typical case of being born into and raised in poverty, being disabled in the workforce for years taking its toll, landlords abusing their renters, and people in positions of power screwing over the people reliant on them. I live with my disabled mother as her caretaker; neither of us can find work and have been consistently struggling for years now just to stay housed.
After multiple emergency moves due to landlords wrongfully evicting us just to jack up the monthly rent (as well as obviously refusing to return our deposits), my mother's spinal fusion surgery in early 2025 and the intensive recovery period after getting her fired from her job (that had promised to keep her on despite the surgery), my grandmother's passing the day my mother was supposed to return home from the hospital and the rift that tore through the family, my mother's disability being taken away immediately after her surgery (because apparently an emergency spinal fusion done to keep her organs from being pushed out of place and her spine from twisting so bad, she'd be wheelchair-bound within a few years actually cures extreme scoliosis! i never would've guessed the paper-pushers behind a desk would know so much about medical needs), we've reached a complete breaking point. Bills piled up, loans were taken out, every desperate measure taken just to try to make rent. Every month is a struggle and a choice between what utility we can manage without until either her social security check comes in or food stamps alleviate a bit of the issue.
I've been doing all I can through commission work and other odd jobs, but it's been impossible to keep my head above the water between all of that and my own student loans and medication costs (now that we both lost health insurance); I'm frankly at my wits end with everything. Not even payday loans will approve either of us after the wrecking ball 2025 took to our credit scores. Family and friends have already offered as much as they can to us over the years, so much so that our relationships have unfortunately grown strained. So now I'm asking on the charity of complete strangers.
The initial goal is just going to be enough to cover this and next month's bills. Anything beyond that will go towards a down payment on whatever cheap place we can find.
