My name is Ivette Portela, and I teach 5th grade at Bannon Creek Elementary in the Natomas Unified School District. We are a Title 1 school with over 80% free and reduced lunch, and have the best kids you could ever meet!

Every year we have an opportunity to visit Alliance Redwoods Science Outdoor Education in Occidental, Ca, deep in the redwoods. This overnight field trip allows city students to experience outdoor education, many for the first time. Here the students will learn how the ecosystem works hands on, how they make a huge impact on the world, and most importantly, how to trust and believe in themselves. 

Because we are a Title 1 school, our funding is little to nothing, and many parents are not able to help as much as they would like. We need the money to charter busses to Alliance Redwoods. Our school district does not offer school busses, and so charter busses are the only option we have to get to Alliance. The total cost of the busses is $3,900, but we would be forever grateful for whatever you are able to donate! Nothing is ever too small! 

We have been fundraising all year, but we are still not able to hit our goal, and without this money, we will have to cancel the 2 night/3 day trip. This is our only field trip of the year because it is so important to the kids.
