Lar's Ride For EOD Bike Tour

Hi Everybody,

My name is Larry Finan, I retired after serving 20 years in the military.  During my 20 year career  I  was an EOD Technician.

So what is EOD?  EOD stands for Explosive Ordnance Disposal, the disarming and disposal of bombs, and Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's) . EOD technicians are highly-trained military members serving in the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force who are responsible for disarming, rendering safe and disposing bombs. The EOD profession is one of the most dangerous occupations in the military.

You may have seen some of the movies inspired by EOD and the professionals who perform this dangerous job here at home (U.S. [peacetime]) and abroad.  A couple of these movies  are "Hurt Locker", "Blown Away" and "Speed".

On average there are over 7,000 brave men and women serving as EOD technicians, who willingly put themselves in harms ways to protect the lives and property of others. Their service includes support to the most complex special operations missions.

In our countrys recent conflicts (Afghanistan, Iraq), bombs known as improvised explosive devices (IEDs) are responsible for the majority of fatalities and severe injuries.

The sacrifice EOD Technician makes is significant.
When EODs technicians are wounded they sustain some of the most severe and often life-changing injuries including loss of limbs, burns, paralysis, blindness and traumatic brain injury (TBI). Many EOD warriors also experience Post Traumatic Stress (PTS).

Recovery and rehabilitation from these injuries can be extensive and require months and sometimes years of inpatient and outpatient care and has a significant emotional and financial impact on the injured EOD warrior and their families.

For the families of fallen EOD warriors, surviving family members face many changes and challenges in their lives as they grieve the loss of a loved one.

So with the support of my wife and the desire to do something bigger than myself.  I wanted to give back to the EOD family I was a part of.   To do this, I have planned a trip that could be accomplished in a month, and raise money for a worthy foundation that provides financial assistance and support to wounded EOD warriors and their families.

So, if you love the spirit of adventure, and want to help someone who is struggling right now, please join me on this journey and make a small donation.  100% of all donations will go to helping an EOD Warrior who was wounded in the line of duty, or the EOD families who lost a loved one.   Along the way, I hope to share their stories on my blog site (larryfinan.com), and get to know some amazing men and women.

Please start sharing today.  My goal is to hit $6k, so anything will help.

I appreciate your generosity in advance, and plan to share our efforts to accomplish this milestone on my blog.

Thank you for your help.

Sincerely,
Larry Finan
