Hi my name is Kim. I am making this for my friend Jessie's little girl River Rae. River needs reconstructive skull surgery. I have known Jessie since we were about 6 or 7 yrs old!
Here is Jessie's and River story !
River is 13 months old! She is sweet, funny and determined!
She has always had a "flat" head, but never really thought much of it, as we were told it would straighten itself out, with time.
About a month ago, we noticed a bump developing around her left ear, and "swelling" around her left eye. They sent her to the hospital for testing. She had a ct scan, ultra sound and x Ray. They referred her out to Nuero surgery and plastic surgery. We were still unsure what was fully going on. Last week we saw plastic surgery, and have been in contact with a few other surgeons.
River has deformational Plagiocephaly that will not resolve on its own. This is very common in babies, but usually resolves it self. Unfortunately River is in the 1 percent that wil not correct itself. She will need skull reconstructive surgery!
There is not a lot of Doctors that will preform this surgery, so we will be traveling to nyu, in New York City. We are still waiting on all the details on the surgery dates.
If we don't get this done, it can lead to severe problems, as her brain won't have room to grow. It is already affecting her hearing on her left ear, she has failed her hearing test and is not speaking yet.
The money that we collect will be used for travel fare from Kentucky to New York and also to help with the medical bills. The surgery will cost between $20-$40,000 and that is with insurance.
This would mean so much to this family because Jessie has two other kids a 12-year-old girl with autism, and a seven-year-old boy. So any amount of money to help with the surgery will give her more money in her pocket to provide for her and her three kids and husband. Jessie's husband travels a lot for work so Jessie does almost all of the work by herself. She is a stay-at-home mom as well.
