Jenny’s Fund

Hi my name is Emily Rosenbaum. I am  reaching out to you on behalf of my very dear sister, Jenny  Fogel (Sarah Tcharyna Chaya bat Eta Chana) who is the  mother of two wonderful girls.   Unfortunately, at only age 42, Jenny developed early stage (2A), BRCA positive breast cancer seven years ago,  in  2013, and had to undergo four surgeries.  Afterwards, she quickly returned to working full-time while continuing  with her prescribed treatment to include regular oncology  follow-ups,  medication, bloodwork, etc. while also still caring for her two little girls, then ages 3 and 8, as a divorced parent.

The years have passed, her two beautiful daughters are now 10 and 15 and she was just remarried a little over a year ago to a wonderful husband,      Scott Cochran (Aharon Dovid).  Things were going well. Then in February, after having experiencing rib and spinal pain, she was devastated to                 suddenly discover that the cancer was now progressed to stage 4 with widespread metastases to  multiple levels of her spine, many bones, and several lesions in      her liver. This was a huge shock to her, her family and everyone that knew her.   However, she accepted this challenge and faced it with strength and    determination to conquer it head on in every way possible, on a physical, medical, emotional and spiritual level.

Jenny had to discontinue working soon after this recent diagnosis in order to complete a course of radiation since one of her tumors was dangerously close to her spinal cord and due to the severity of her symptoms.  Shortly afterwards, she developed severe coughing which was found to be caused
by inflammation in her lungs, a late effect of the radiation directed to her spine as well as due to an effect of the chemotherapy medication that she
was taking.  She had a bronchoscopy (to visualize her lungs) and then required a very long course of treatment, which she is currently still taking at
this time. Jenny inherited the BRCA 2 gene which is responsible for causing an impairment in her ability to repair damaged DNA thus allowing the
development of cancer to go unchecked. Because of this deficit in her genes as well as the dire concern that the metastases are very widespread
throughout her body, especially in her liver (an organ vital for many functions) her physician has recommended additional supplemental treatments in the form of injections to supplement the chemo treatments. These injections greatly improve the efficacy of the chemo treatments, improve the
response of her immune system and give her a much improved chance of survival. Since Jenny has been receiving these injections regularly, her
second scan was much improved from her initial scan, her labs have normalized and her tumor marker has continued to decrease sequentially
(although it still has a way to go to normalize). Unfortunately, these injections require administration multiple times per week, are incredibly                    expensive and are not covered by insurance.  They are essential for her recovery from diffuse metastatic breast cancer. Additionally, her medical          expenses have increased significantly and she is unable to work at this time, especially being at high risk during the Covid-19 pandemic when working in the medical field is very risky. Until recently, she has handled all the expenses on her own, not asking anyone for help.  But now it’s becoming               overwhelming and we are trying to assist her in this effort.

We are, therefore, reaching out to you for your assistance and support to contribute in an effort which will please G-d save Jenny’s life.                            Whatever you’re able to give will be appreciated. The money will be used towards her injections, prescription medications, co-pays, and doctor’s bills, and also any additional medical expenses which may arise.

Lastly, I just want to say that one of Jenny’s most outstanding features is her sense of giving.  She constantly gives of herself in so many ways.  As a       trained Physician’s Assistant, having worked in the medical field for many years, she now sees her niche in helping others who are diagnosed with        breast cancer navigate through this challenging diagnosis and help guide them through this overwhelming journey of finding the most effective           medications, treatments, and the most helpful resources. Please help her which will ultimately further enable her to help so many other women that are going though a similar plight.

Just knowing that so many people are praying for her and most of all rooting for Jenny is tremendously encouraging. That knowledge along with her  strong faith are what keeps her motivated every day to pull though this challenging situation and to stay determined to overcome it. Your backing will give her the greatest gift; the gift of life. Please share this email on to everyone you know to help further it’s reach and allow everyone a chance to          participate in this important charity opportunity.
