** UPDATE: 3/25/23 **

Kaylie has been in rehab since the 20th and blowing everyone away. She is not only kicking butt in PT, but now walking without the assistance of a walker! She's recovering so well, and we have a game plan to get her home by Easter. It's looking like April 5th.

She was also able to be reunited with Louie and Layla this week. To say this was needed is an understatement. Both kids got to love on mommy and she got the chance to build her spirits by hanging out with the two most wonderful kids.

The updates to the house are moving quickly, and looking beautiful. The bathrooms are about completed, floors in, paint done, and now it's time for first floor laundry! The generosity from this GoFundMe has been incredible and we are seeing the impact directly. Again, thank you doesn’t even begin to cover the gratitude we feel.

**UPDATE**
It was exactly one month ago on February 20th that this all began & Kaylie was admitted to the hospital… Today is March 20th and we got THE call this morning! Her room at the UW Rehabilitation Center is ready for her!! TODAY IS THE DAY! Kk has been discharged from the UW Hospital and is on to the next step in her recovery journey! Praise God!!
They put in a PICC line today so that she can easily receive her antibiotics and other medications at rehab. They also removed her dialysis port today because she is officially done with kidney dialysis!! WOOHOO!
Her team spent the day preparing her for next steps and working on her discharge plan. Mom is driving her to the rehab center and tonight she will get settled into her room and rest! Tomorrow the work starts!! She will be expected to do 3 hours of PT/OT per day & will likely be inpatient for 1-2 weeks. All of her specialists will remain on her case and will continue to monitor her progress, labs, etc. daily.
She has the best team by her side to ensure a smooth transition into rehab and continued progress towards recovery. Louis & Layla will finally be reunited with their Mama this week and will be able to visit her at rehab until she gets discharged home! ❤️
The past month has been a whirlwind to say the least, and Kk has a long road ahead of her until she is fully recovered, but we are so freaking proud of how far she has come! Her optimism and determination throughout this journey will inspire us forever. We are so grateful for all of you as well. Thank you for supporting Kk and our family these past several weeks! We will continue to update you on her progress! We know that she will kick ass in rehab!
Please know that the visitor policy at the UW rehab is the same as the UW hospital (2 visitors per day), so y’all will have to wait just a bit longer for that KK hug. ❤️
____________
Thank you seems so inadequate, but thank you from the bottom of our hearts to all that have prayed, made a meal, and shared/donated to the Anderson family GoFund me. The past 17 days have been incredibly difficult for Dan, Kaylie, Louis and Layla and the road ahead is a long one.

This journey started on February 20, 2023. A severe infection in Kaylie's uterus led to the tragic loss of Dan & Kaylie’s 3rd child, and a septic shock infection that nearly cost Kaylie her life. Kaylie was in organ failure and required dozens of life saving medications and procedures over the past 2 weeks. She has made significant strides in her recovery, but as expected, she has had some minor set backs.

Earlier this week, given her miraculous progress, her team had hoped for her to be transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility for 1-2 weeks. Unfortunately, on Tuesday 3/7, another infection reared its head, so she remains at UW Hospital under expert care. She will continue to receive IV antibiotics for the next several days and will be monitored closely.

We are hopeful that she will recover from this setback quickly, and will be able to transfer to the rehabilitation facility by end of next week. She remains dependent on intermittent kidney dialysis but is responding well to that.

Dan is doing an amazing job at keeping things as normal as possible for Louis and Layla, managing accessibility modifications to their home for Kaylie’s return, and supporting Kaylie while she recovers. Kaylie is determined & focused on her recovery, and is working hard to get better so she can get home to her family. She remains positive, optimistic, and is so grateful to be alive!

As you can imagine, the medical bills and costs associated with Kaylie’s recovery are growing each day. Brain surgery for Layla has been postponed so that her Mama can recover and be there to support her, but costs and time off work for that are just around the corner. Please continue to PRAY, share the Gofund me, and donate if you are able. Any support, small or large, is so appreciated and will help their family tremendously.

The past 12 months have been incredibly difficult for the Anderson Family. Dan, Kaylie, Louis, and Layla have had to endure so much in such a short timeframe. Back in early 2022, Dan & Kaylie’s daughter, Layla (now 2), began having seizures. After months of tests and appointments, Layla was diagnosed with Hypothalamic Hamartoma (HH). HH is a rare benign brain tumor (occurs in 1 out 200,000 children and teenagers worldwide) located in the hypothalamus. After months of planning, several overnight EEGs and MRIs, Layla’s first brain surgery was scheduled for March 2023.

In early December 2022, Kaylie and Dan were surprised with a pregnancy. They were so excited to grow their family. That excitement took a tragic turn this week on Monday, February 20th. Kaylie became incredibly ill and was rushed to Meriter Hospital. She had developed a severe infection in her uterus and required emergency surgery. Dan & Kaylie lost the baby at 18 weeks. During surgery, Kaylie lost a lot of blood; due to the blood loss and some other complications and concerns, she was admitted to the ICU at Meriter Hospital. Kaylie developed sepsis and went into septic shock. On Tuesday afternoon, she was intubated and sedated. She had a difficult time circulating blood throughout her body due to the trauma her heart had endured from the infection and has since had complications with her kidneys, liver and lungs. She currently has machines supporting all major organ functions (lungs, kidneys, and heart). The Doctors are confident that her organs will heal themselves once she beats the infection.

On Tuesday afternoon the decision was made to transfer her via MedFlight Ground to the UW Cardiovascular ICU. Her team here at the UW is doing an amazing job monitoring absolutely everything. On Wednesday she was brought up to surgery for a full hysterectomy. She had every department there monitoring her throughout the surgery ready and prepared to step in and assist. Thankfully, the surgery was successful with no complications and they were able to keep one ovary intact. She was brought back up to the ICU where she is resting and slowly showing slight signs of improvement. Her team of Doctors and Nurses is incredible and with each shift Kaylie is receiving 2:1 care, meaning she is the only patient of two ICU nurses. She is not out of the woods. She is still in critical condition and she has a long road ahead of her. We are praying around the clock for a full recovery so she can go home to Dan, Louis, and Layla. We are praying for a miracle and we know God and her guardian angels have her back!

Please pray, send positive thoughts and contribute if you are able. Any one of these ‘events’ is more than any family should endure. Between the current and future medical bills for both Kaylie and Layla, the time Kaylie and Dan will be off work, and their continuous care, no amount of help is too small. We thank you all so much for your kind words and support! Please pray!!!
