Help Us Save Our Local Boxing Club – A Cornerstone of the Community
Our local boxing club is more than just a gym – it’s a lifeline. With the building now going to auction, we are fighting to raise the funds to buy it and secure its future for generations to come. We believe in the power of boxing not just as a sport, but as a force for good in our community.
A boxing gym changes lives. It gives people, especially young people, a safe space to grow, learn, and belong. Here are just some of the ways our club makes a difference:
• Tackling Anti-Social Behaviour
The gym keeps young people off the streets and away from negative influences. Instead of falling into crime or destructive habits, they find purpose, structure, and something positive to commit to.
• Supporting the NHS
Regular training promotes healthier lifestyles, reducing obesity, heart disease, and other preventable conditions. By encouraging fitness and wellbeing, our gym helps ease pressure on the NHS in the long run.
• Improving Mental Health
Exercise is one of the most powerful tools for managing stress, anxiety, and depression. Our gym provides an outlet for emotions, a release of tension, and a supportive environment where no one feels alone.
• Shaping Behaviour & Building Discipline
Boxing teaches routine, responsibility, and self-control. Members learn that success comes from hard work, not shortcuts, and that setbacks are opportunities to grow stronger.
• Teaching Respect & Authority
Inside the ring, respect is everything – respect for coaches, teammates, and opponents. Young people learn to listen to authority, not out of fear, but out of trust and mutual respect.
• Providing Positive Peers & Role Models
In the gym, everyone is surrounded by people striving to better themselves. Coaches and senior boxers act as mentors, guiding younger members and showing them that success doesn’t come from taking the easy path, but from persistence and resilience.
• Creating Equality & Inclusion
Our club opens its doors to everyone – no matter their background, gender, religion, ability, or additional needs. We welcome people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, neurodiverse conditions (such as autism and ADHD), those struggling with confidence, and anyone who simply wants to feel accepted. In the ring, everyone is equal. Gloves don’t discriminate.
This is why saving our club matters. It is more than bricks and mortar – it is community, hope, and opportunity. Without it, we risk losing a safe haven that has helped countless people turn their lives around.
We’re asking for your support to buy the club and keep its doors open. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us protect this vital space and ensure it continues to change lives for years to come.
Together, we can save our boxing club. Together, we can keep fighting for our community.
